1`2612
4/3/72
The engineering department has plotted the location of this under-
ground cable on a map that is on file in the Board of Public
Works. The location of the identifying manholes are quite a dis-
stance from the intersection in question. I would not expect our
maintanance forces to walk three-quarters of a block away to look
for identification markers during an emergency water main break.
Futhermore, the Bell`Company had placed their conduit directly on
our water main and It was.so close that the concrete casing had to
be chipped away in•order that we could repair our main.' it Is
quite possible that the location of your -conduit damaged our main
to such an extent that it caused the break.
I would expect that with the huge network of underground conduit
that the Bell system is presently installing throughout our City
and our County that that more stringent methods of identification of
the location of these conduits would be put In force.
By copy of this letter, i am notifying the Board of Public Works
and Safety of my action for concurrance.
Very truly yours,
s/ William J.
