1`2612 4/3/72 The engineering department has plotted the location of this under- ground cable on a map that is on file in the Board of Public Works. The location of the identifying manholes are quite a dis- stance from the intersection in question. I would not expect our maintanance forces to walk three-quarters of a block away to look for identification markers during an emergency water main break. Futhermore, the Bell`Company had placed their conduit directly on our water main and It was.so close that the concrete casing had to be chipped away in•order that we could repair our main.' it Is quite possible that the location of your -conduit damaged our main to such an extent that it caused the break. I would expect that with the huge network of underground conduit that the Bell system is presently installing throughout our City and our County that that more stringent methods of identification of the location of these conduits would be put In force. A letter was received from First Community Development Corporation asking that Patty Lane and Bently Lane be dedicated to the City, as they now realize the two streets should have been dedicated to the city when the project was developed. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the matter was referred to the Engineering Department. PERMISSION :TO SEND STREET DEPARTMENT EMPLOYEES TO ROAD SCHOOL A letter was received from"Donald Decker, Street Commissioner, asking permission for himself, Mr. Archie Henderson, Mr, Larry Goilar and Mr. Ronald Schmanke to attend the 1972 Indiana Road School in La - Fayette, Indiana April 3 through bth. Motion was made, seconded and unanimously carried that the request be allowed LEASE FOR PROPERTY TO BE USED.AS PARKING LOTS Upon motion made, seconded and carried, an agreement was signed whereby the City of South Bend will lease a tract of land at the South east corner of St. Joseph and Jefferson Boulevard for the sum of $10.00 per year,.to be used as a parking lot for St. Joseph Bank employees, the bank to be the leases. (Land belongs to Redevelopment Comm.) Upon motion made, seconded and carried, an agreement was signed whereby the LaSalle Hotel will furnish an attendant for the parking lot on the Southeast corner of LsSalle and Michigan Streets, and the revenue re- ceived will be split between the LaSalle Hotel and the City of South Bend.
