<br />Hiawatha Street, Rev. Jack West, Calvary Temple Church, 3.717 S. Michigan Street,
<br />South Bend, Indiana; and Rev. Scott L. Weaver, Ireland Road Christian Church.
<br />Protest petitions were filed by the Indiana Avenue United Pentecostal Church,
<br />137 E. Indiana Avenue, South Bend, Indiana, bearing 92 signatures; Calvary
<br />Temple, 3717 S. Michigan Street, South Bend, Indiana, bearing 260 signatures;
<br />Rev. Leland Kennedy, Twin City Baptist Church, Mishawaka, Indiana, bearing
<br />208 signatures; and Rev. William Neece, First Church of God, Mishawaka, Indiana,
<br />bearing 198 signatures.
<br />A letter of legal opinion by Charles E'.'Rice, Professor of Law, Notre Dame
<br />University, 820 Cavanaugh Drive, South Bend, Indiana, opposing the showing
<br />of the production, was read by Dr. Helen Calvin and filed with the Board.
<br />Lloyd S. Taylor, President of the Board, stated that it was the decision of the
<br />Board to permit the manager of the Morris Civic Auditorium to allow the booking
<br />of the production "Hair." Mr. Taylor further stated it is not the function of
<br />the Board to pass on the morality of the play; that the Board is not a censoring
<br />body, and that it is the opinion of the Board the general public should have
<br />the opportunity to decide for itself whether or not to see the play.
<br />OLD FIRE STATION #10, 1820 S. MICHIGAN STREET
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board granted permission
<br />for the South Bend Youth Service, as requested by Adrian P. Hickey, to use the
<br />old Fire Station 410 at 1820 S. Michigan Street, for office space for the Director
<br />and staff, for the use of the Narcotics Commission, and for storage of
<br />miscellaneous small equipment and tools.
<br />PETITION TO OPEN AND EXTEND NORTH SHORE DRIVE - NORTH SHORE WOODS ONE
<br />Joseph A. Roper, attorney, 316 First Bank Building, South Bend, Indiana, on
<br />behalf of North Shore Woods One, an Indiana Limited Partnership, by Richard M.
<br />Hodson and Joel Bullard, as general partners, filed with the Board a petition -
<br />to open North Shore Drive across the Penn Central Railroad crossing, together
<br />with a deposit of $75.00 for costs. Upon motion made, seconded and carried,
<br />the petition was referred to the Area Plan Commission for study and recommendation
<br />to the Board.
<br />VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 3344, 1971 ADOPTED - DEPARTMENT OF REDEVELOPMENT (IND. R-57)
<br />The motion was made, seconded and unanimously carried for the preliminary
<br />adoption of the following Resolution:
<br />"VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 3344, 1971
<br />"RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF SOUTH
<br />BEND, INDIANA, That it is desirable to vacate the following:
<br />Portions of streets and alleys in LaSalle Park, all
<br />within the recorded Third Plat of Summit Place Addition,
<br />a Subdivision in the northwest Quarter of the southwest
<br />Quarter of Section 10, Township 37 north.' Range 2 east,
<br />as follows:
<br />(1) Kankakee Avenue between the west line of the
<br />north -south alley west of Kaley Street and the
<br />east line extended northerly of Lot 686.
<br />(2) Kaley Street between 40 feet north of the north
<br />line of Colfax Avenue and the south line of
<br />Kankakee Avenue.
<br />(3) The north -south alley between Kaley Street and
<br />Meade Street between 40 feet north of the north
<br />line of Colfax Avenue and the south line of
<br />Kankakee Avenue.
