August 30, 1971. <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 <br />A.M. on August 30, 1971, with all members present. The minutes of the <br />previous meeting were approved. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT - RESIGNATION <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board accepted and <br />approved the resignation of fireman Darrell W. Dunlap, Jr., from the South <br />Bend Fire Department effective as of August 24, 1971. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT - SICK LEAVE EXTENDED <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the <br />recommendation of Fire Chief.Joseph L. Zurat for a 30 day extension of <br />sick leave for the following firemen: "Mr. Taylor voted "no." <br />Fireman Edward Szymkowiak <br />Captain Richard Taylor <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - REQUEST TO ATTEND COMPUTER $.CHOOL <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board granted per- <br />mission for Captain Gerald Knepper and Sergeant Clem Degucz to attend a <br />computer school in Detroit, Michigan for a five day course commencing <br />V <br />September 13, 1971.. <br />APPOINTMENT AS SPECIAL POLICE OFFICER - MAGDALENE PEGGY SCOTT <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />recommendation of Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert for the appointment of <br />Magdalene (Peggy) Scott as a special police officer at Robertson's Depart- <br />ment store. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION <br />Richard Liszewski, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and <br />the following matters were taken up. <br />134 Birdsell Street. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the <br />Sub -Standards Department was authorized to'seek bids for demolition of the <br />structure at 134 Birdsell Street. <br />218 S. Chapin Street. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the matter of <br />218 S. Chapin Street was continued two weeks. <br />702 S. Clinton Street. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the matter of <br />702 S. Clinton Street was continued two weeks. <br />Demolition bid <br />This being the date set for receiving bids for the demolition of the accessory <br />building at 236 E. Indiana Avenue, Mr. Liszewski tendered the bid of Midwest <br />Demolition Company which was the only bid received. Non collusion affidavit <br />was found to be proper. The bid was in the amount of $153.00. Upon motion <br />made, seconded and unanimously carried, the bid of Midwest Demolition Company <br />in the amount of $153.00 for the demolition of the accessory building at 236 <br />E. Indiana Avenue was accepted. <br />SALT BIDS <br />The Purchasing Department reports to the Board that the Morton Salt Company <br />has extended the time for accepting their salt bid of August 9, 1971, two <br />weeks beyond August 31, 1971. <br />STAGE PRODUCTION "HAIR" - MORRIS CIVIC AUDITORIUM <br />Approximately 35 to 40 persons appeared before the Board to protest the show- <br />ing of the rock musical "Hair" at the Morris Civic Auditorium. <br />
