<br />Mark Taplan, 1628 S. Vernon Street, South Bend, Indiana, appeared before
<br />the Board and stated that he was in favor of the closing of Vernon Street.

<br />IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO J286, 1969 - VINE STREET, 35TH STREET TO 36TH.
<br />For the improvement of Vine Street, from 32nd Street to 36th Street by con-
<br />structing a Class C pavement.with curb repairs.
<br />Clyde E. Williams and Associates, Inc., consulting engineers, having filed
<br />certificate of completion of said improvement by Rieth Riley Construction
<br />Company, Inc., under Improvement Resolution Nos. 3284, 3285 and 3286, in
<br />accordance with the plans and specifications therefor, and the City Engineer
<br />having filed assessment rolls, with the names of the owners and description
<br />of the property subject to be assessed, with the amount of the prima facie
<br />assessment*August 2, 1971, at 9:30 A.M., in Room 1308 County City Building,
<br />was set as the time -and place for receiving remonstrances against the amounts
<br />assessed on said rolls and at which time the Board will determine whether such
<br />lots or tracts of land have been or will be benefited by said improvement to
<br />the amounts named.
<br />And the Clerk is directed to give notice of such hearing by publication in
<br />the South Bend Tribune and the Tri County News on July 16 and July 23, 1971.
<br />HEARING ON ASSESSMENT ROLL - VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 3342 - DEPARTME

<br />This being the date set, hearing was held'on the assessment roll in Vacation
<br />Resolution No. 3342, 1971, for the vacation of:
<br />The east -west alley between Western Avenue and Monroe
<br />Street, running west from the west right of way line of Michigan
<br />Street to the east right of way line of the north south alley
<br />between Michigan Street and Main Street.
<br />Proofs of publication in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri County News on
<br />June 18, June 25 and July 2, 1971, were read and found to be sufficient.
<br />No remonstrators appeared and no written remonstrances were received. Upon
<br />motion made, seconded and unanimously carried,' the assessment roll was
<br />approved as presented and said Resolution in all things ratified and con-
<br />firmed, and the proceedings closed.

<br />Updn motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the
<br />recommendation of the Engineering Department for the Department of Redevelop-
<br />ment to demolish the surface.of portions of Carroll Street, E. Wayne Street,
<br />E. Spencer Street, E. Western Avenue and five alleys under the downtown
<br />renewal program.

<br />In -Kind rent vouchers for the month of July, 1971, for Fire Station #5 in
<br />the amount of $283.34, for Fire Station #7 in the amount of $283.58 and for
<br />Fire Station #8 in the amount of $283.58 were ordered filed.
<br />REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS FOR TRASH AND GARBAGE COLLECTION
<br />€Ipon:motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, 'the Board approved the
<br />request of the Engineering Department to advertise for bids for the collection
<br />of residential trash and garbage from approximately 20,000 homes. July 26,
<br />1971, was set as the time for receiving bids, and the Clerk was directed to
<br />give notice by publication in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri County News
<br />on July 16 and July 23, 1971.
