3. <br />July 12, 1971. <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:35 <br />A.M: on July 12, 1971, with all members present. The minutes of the <br />previous two meetings were reviewed and approved. - <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT Q EXCUSED FOR MILITARY DUTY <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the request of <br />Officer James M;,Omford to be excused for military duty July 17 to July 31, <br />1971 and for Officer Dennis Severns to'be excused for military duty August <br />7 to August 21, 1971. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS FOR UNIFORMS <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the request of <br />Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert to advertise for bids for uniforms for <br />the Police Department for the period July 1, 1971 to July 1, 1972. July <br />26, 1971, wts9saO AsM;`4n Room 1308 County Mity Building, was set as the <br />0.14 time and place for receiving bids and the Clerk was directed to give <br />T-4 notice by publication in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri County News <br />on July 16 and July 23, 1971. <br />w <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION <br />Bids for the demolition of sub -standard properties were submitted by Richard <br />W. Liszewski, Sub -Standards Director. The bids were opened and non collusion <br />affidavits.were found to be proper. The bids were as follows: <br />802 S. Kaley Street: <br />Midwest Demolition Company $421.00 <br />O'Neal Trucking Company $584.00 <br />Bryant Excavating Company $670.00 <br />Vanek Excavating Company $430.00 <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, contract for demolition <br />of the structure at 802 S. Kaley Street was awarded to Midwest Demolition <br />Company°on its low bid of $421.00. <br />814 Marietta Street: <br />Midwest Demolition Company $523.00 <br />O'Neal Trucking Company $834.00 <br />Bryant Excavating Company $718.00 <br />Vanek Excavating Company $449.00 <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, contract for demolition <br />of the structure at 814 Marietta Street was awarded to Vanek Excavating <br />Company on its low bid of $449.00. <br />Request to appear before the Board July 26, 1971 <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the request of <br />the Sub -Standards Director for the following persons to appear before the <br />Board in reference to the sub -standard condition of the following properties; <br />July 26, 1971: <br />Roscoe Claxton - 125 E. Keasey Street <br />Norman and Ciolet M. Ernsberger - 1528-1530 S. Magnolia Street <br />and Lavern and Ester Jessup <br />Grant Lewis and J. W. and <br />Georgia'Howard - Lot 24, Elder Street <br />Kenneth and Rebecca Rerick - 724 Victoria Street <br />REMONSTRANCES FILED - PROPOSED CLOSING OF PENN CENTRAL RAILROAD CROSSINGS <br />AT CAROLINE AND VERNON STREETS <br />Third District Councilman Robert 0. Laven files with the Board remonstrances <br />signed by several hundred persons against the closing of Caroline and Vernon <br />Streets at the Penn Central railroad crossings, which were reviewed and <br />ordered filed. <br />
