6/7/71 <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION <br />Richard Liszewski, Sub -Standards Director, reported he had heard nothing <br />from the land contract buyer of 510 S. Taylor Street nor from attorney <br />Walter Rice on behalf of the owner. <br />Due to the extreme safety hazard and because an emergency exists Mr. <br />Crumpacker moved the Sub -Standards Department be authorized to seek bids <br />for demolition of the property at 510 S. Taylor Street. The motion was <br />seconded by Mr. Bickel and unanimously carried. <br />WEIGHTS AND MEASURES DEPARTMENT - MONTHLY REPORT <br />Monthly report submitted by Bert Cichowicz for the Weights and Measures <br />Department for May, 1971, was read and ordered filed. <br />VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 3337, 1971 AMENDED - DEPARTMENT OF REDEVELOPMENT <br />(POST OFFICE SITE <br />S. J. Crumpacker moved for reconsideration of the vote taken on February <br />22, 1971, approving Vacation Resolution No. 3337, 1971. The motion was <br />seconded and unanimously carried. <br />G Mr. Crumpacker then moved for the amendment of Vacation Resolution No. 3337, <br />1971, by the addition of the following language contained in the amended <br />resolution before the Board: <br />RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF <br />THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, That it is desirable to <br />vacate "all portions of streets and alleys located within <br />the real estate described as follows" <br />It was further moved by Mr. Crumpacker, seconded and unanimously carried, <br />that the amended resolution be set for public hearing on June 21, 1971, <br />and that notice be given by publication in the South Bend Tribune and the <br />Tri County News on June 11 and June 18, 1971. <br />HEARING ON VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 3342 - DEPARTMENT OF REDEVELOPMENT <br />(EAST -WEST ALLEY) <br />Harrison Miller appeared before the Board on behalf of the Department of <br />Redevelopment. <br />This being the date set, hearing was had on Vacation Resolution No. 3342 <br />for the vacation of the east -west alley between Western Avenue and Monroe <br />Street, running west from the west right of way line of Michigan Street <br />to the east right of way line of the north -south alley between Michigan <br />Street and Main Street. <br />The Clerk tendered proofs of publication of notice in the South Bend Tribune <br />and the Tri County News on May 28 and June 4, 1971, which were read and <br />found to be sufficient. No remonstrators appeared and no written remonstrances <br />having been received, it was moved, seconded and carried unanimously that the <br />action taken by the Board on May 24, 1971, adopting said Resolution No. 3342, <br />1971, be ratified and finally confirmed. <br />The City Engineer is directed to prepare an assessment roll showing the <br />assessment of benefits and the award of damages to the surrounding property <br />owners. <br />Upon motion made seconded and carried, the request of the Department of Re- <br />development for permission to demolish the surface of said above described <br />east -west alley was approved by the Board. <br />PETITION FILED TO VACATE ALLEY - FLOYD L. HECKAMAN <br />Curtis Products, Inc., 228 E. Bronson Street, South Bend, Indiana, by <br />Floyd L. Heckaman, President, filed petition to vacate: <br />
