6/7/71 BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION Richard Liszewski, Sub -Standards Director, reported he had heard nothing from the land contract buyer of 510 S. Taylor Street nor from attorney Walter Rice on behalf of the owner. Due to the extreme safety hazard and because an emergency exists Mr. Crumpacker moved the Sub -Standards Department be authorized to seek bids for demolition of the property at 510 S. Taylor Street. The motion was seconded by Mr. Bickel and unanimously carried. WEIGHTS AND MEASURES DEPARTMENT - MONTHLY REPORT Monthly report submitted by Bert Cichowicz for the Weights and Measures Department for May, 1971, was read and ordered filed. VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 3337, 1971 AMENDED - DEPARTMENT OF REDEVELOPMENT (POST OFFICE SITE S. J. Crumpacker moved for reconsideration of the vote taken on February 22, 1971, approving Vacation Resolution No. 3337, 1971. The motion was seconded and unanimously carried. G Mr. Crumpacker then moved for the amendment of Vacation Resolution No. 3337, 1971, by the addition of the following language contained in the amended resolution before the Board: RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, That it is desirable to vacate "all portions of streets and alleys located within the real estate described as follows" It was further moved by Mr. Crumpacker, seconded and unanimously carried, that the amended resolution be set for public hearing on June 21, 1971, and that notice be given by publication in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri County News on June 11 and June 18, 1971. HEARING ON VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 3342 - DEPARTMENT OF REDEVELOPMENT (EAST -WEST ALLEY) Harrison Miller appeared before the Board on behalf of the Department of Redevelopment. This being the date set, hearing was had on Vacation Resolution No. 3342 for the vacation of the east -west alley between Western Avenue and Monroe Street, running west from the west right of way line of Michigan Street to the east right of way line of the north -south alley between Michigan Street and Main Street. The Clerk tendered proofs of publication of notice in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri County News on May 28 and June 4, 1971, which were read and found to be sufficient. No remonstrators appeared and no written remonstrances having been received, it was moved, seconded and carried unanimously that the action taken by the Board on May 24, 1971, adopting said Resolution No. 3342, 1971, be ratified and finally confirmed. The City Engineer is directed to prepare an assessment roll showing the assessment of benefits and the award of damages to the surrounding property owners. Upon motion made seconded and carried, the request of the Department of Re- development for permission to demolish the surface of said above described east -west alley was approved by the Board.
