June 7, 1971. <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 9:30 <br />A.M. on June 7, 1971, with all members present. <br />BIDS OPENED - OLIVE STREET SIDEWALK - IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO. 3324 <br />This being the date set for receiving bids for the construction of curbs and <br />sidewalks on Olive Street, from Ford Street to Western Avenue, the Clerk <br />tendered proofs of publication in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri County <br />News on May 21 and May 28, 1971, which were read and found to be sufficient. <br />The following bids were received: <br />McIntyre and Jones, Inc., 2526 W. 6th Street, Mishawaka, Indiana. Non <br />collusion affidavit was found to be proper. The bid was accompanied by a bid <br />bond in the amount of 5% of the bid. Bidder's financial statement (Indiana <br />State Board of Accounts Form 96-a) .is on file in the Board office, <br />Total bid------------------------------$14,158.09 <br />Rieth Riley Construction Co., Inc., P. 0. Box 775, Sou th Bend, Indiana. <br />Non collusion affidavit was found to be proper. The bid was accompanied by <br />a bid bond in the amount of 5% of the bid. Bidder's financial statement <br />(Indiana State Board of Accounts Form 96-a) is on file in the Board office. <br />Total bid ----------------------------- $12,892.00 <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the bids were referred to Clyde E. <br />Williams and Associates, Inc., for study and recommendation to the Board. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT - REQUEST FOR TRANSFER OF $1200.00. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the request of F ire Chief Joseph L. <br />Zurat to transfer $1200.00 from Account Q-11 (salaries) to Account Q-54 <br />(clothing) for the purpose of purchasing scuba equipment to outfit four <br />divers, was approved and referred to the Legal Department for the preparation <br />of an ordinance for the consideration of the Common Council. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT - APPLICATION <br />The application of Paul C. Szynski for appointment to the South Bend Fire De- <br />partment was filed with the Board and referred to the Personnel Director <br />for further processing. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - APPLICATIONS <br />The applications of Thomas George Heyde and Michael J. Swanson for appointment <br />to the South Bend Police Department were filed with the Board and referred to <br />the Personnel Director for further processing. <br />APPLICATION FOR APPOINTMENT AS SPECIAL POLICE OFFICER - STANLEY M. KANICKI <br />Action on the application of Stanley M. Kanicki for appointment as a special <br />police officer was postponed until receipt of further information as to what <br />his duties will be and the need for a special police commission in the scope <br />of his employment at Robert Hall Clothing Store. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - REQUEST TO ATTEND PISTOL MATCH SPRINGFIELD ILLINOIS <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the <br />request of Chief of Police Loren M. Bussert for the South Bend Police Pistol <br />Team to attend the Illinois State Police Pistol Match in Springfield, Illinois <br />from June 7 through June 10, 1971. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - REQUEST TO ATTEND CONFERENCE, PITTSBURGH PA, <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the re- <br />quest of Building Commissioner Forrest R. West to attend the 56th annual conference <br />of Building Officials and Code Administrators International, Inc., in Pittsburgh, <br />Pennsylvania June 12 to June 18, 1971. <br />
