3 <br />6/1/71 <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - REQUEST TO -BE EXCUSED FOR MILITARY DUTY <br />Requests to be excused for military duty, upon motion made, seconded and <br />unanimously carried, upon the recommendation of Chief of Police Loren M. <br />Bussert, were approved as follows; <br />Officer Donald F. Allen - U. S. Coast Guard. June 18 through July 4, 1971. <br />Sgt. Marvin Martz - Marine Corps Reserve. May 29 to June 13, 1971. <br />Sgt. James Robison - Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. July 17 through July 31, 1971. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - REQUEST TO ATTEND PARADE, MICHIGAN CITY, INDIANA <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the request of <br />Chief Loren M. Busseret.for the five motorcycles of the Police Department <br />to participate in the annual summer festival parade at Michigan City, Indiana, <br />June 6, 1971. <br />APPLICATION FOR APPOINTMENT AS SPECIAL POLICE OFFICER - JAMES WILLIAM GALVAS <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, action on the application of Joseph <br />William Galvas for appointment as a special police officer was postponed <br />for further information from the employer regarding.the duties of the <br />U applicant and the need for a special police commission. <br />V <br />COMPUTER SYSTEM FOR POLICE DEPARTMENT - RECOMMENDATION OF JOSEPH LARIMORE <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the recommendation of <br />Joseph Larimore, Jr. in connection with the proposed computer system for the <br />Police Department was taken under advisement by the Board. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARDS DIVISION <br />Richard Liszewski, Sub -Standards Director, appeared before the Board and the <br />following matters were taken up; <br />213 E. Paris Street. Joseph T. Taylor appeared before the Board as requested. <br />Mr. Taylor stated there has been a fire and the building will have to be <br />taken down. He is agreeable for the City to demolish the structure. The <br />motion was made, seconded and carried that the Sub -Standards Director be <br />authorized to seek bids for the demolition of the structure at 213 E. Paris <br />Street. <br />510 S. Taylor -Street. Attorney Walter Rice appeared before the Board on <br />behalf of Doris Hendershott Corey, owner of the property at 5i& S. Taylor <br />Street. Mr. Rice produced a contract for the sale of the property at 510 S. <br />Taylor Street from Neal and Doris Corey to Charles and Ophelia Morrell, <br />and asked that the record show this property being purchased by the <br />Morrells under a land contract. Mr. Rice states the Morrells are delinquent <br />in their payments and he has attempted to serve notice upon them. Upon <br />motion made, seconded and carried, the matter was continued one week. <br />622 S. Rush Street. Audie and Grace Melson appeared as requested. Mrs. <br />Melson stated they have boarded up the property many times and they have <br />now quit because it is always torn off, and they are willing for the <br />structure to be torn down. Upon motion made, seconded and carried the <br />Sub -Standards Director was authorized to seek bids for demolition of the <br />property. <br />1410 Portage Avenue. No one appeared on behalf of the estate of Stanley <br />Bergielski, owner of this property. Mr. Liszewski reported the administrator <br />has requested a list of necessary repairs for consideration as to whether <br />the property will be repaired or demolished. Upon motion made, seconded <br />and carried, the matter was continued two weeks. <br />129 E. Paris Street. Alice Eckler Lahey did not appear as requested. Mr. <br />Liszewski read a letter from attorney Nicholas Cholis, representing the <br />owner, agreeing for the City to demolish the structure. The motion was <br />
