Ironwood Drive, was present and inquired if this was the
total assessment against the property owners. He was told that it was. He
then inquired as to the method of payment. Mr. Gerald Phipps, of Clyde Williams
and Associates, told Mr. Lott that property owners could pay the assessment in
cash within a 30 day period or could pay it in five installments, over five years,
billed by the County Treasurer. He said additional information on the payments
could be obtained from the Treasurer's office. There were no remonstrators
present and no written remonstrances having been received, the Board, upon motion
made, seconded and carried, approved a resolution confirming the assessment roll
adopted by the Board on the 6th day of August, 1973 for the improvement of the
North Ironwood Drive Sidewalks.
JAMES MC CANN REGARDING TAXICABS
Mr, James McCann, 113B Dixie Way North, was present and spoke to the Board. Mr.
McCann said he had investigated the possibility of beginning the operation of a
taxicab company in South'Bend but because of the requirements of the Municipal
Code, he has started an operation in Roseland. He asked the Board if he could come
into South Bend to pick up passengers who want to go to Roseland without having
a South Bend license. He said it was his understanding that there is such an
agreement between South Bend and Mishawaka Cab Companies. Mr. Jerry Sakaguchi,
Deputy City Attorney, said it was his opinion that the Board did not have the
power to enter into such an agreement with Mr. McCann. Mr. McCann was asked if
Roseland had an ordinance regulating the operation of taxicabs. Mr. McCann
said they did not have such an ordinance but he was working with town officials
in setting up his operation. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board
referred this matter to the Legal Department for research and will notify Mr.
McCann of their recommendation.
AWARDING OF BID - PROJECT R & S 48, IRONWOOD-IRELAND IMPROVEMENTS, CONTRACT 2
The Board received a recommendation from the Bureau of Engineering that the bid
of Howell Construction Company, Inc. of $902,326.56 be accepted for Contract 2
of Project R & S 48, Ironwood -Ireland Improvements.
