<br />this matter and has discovered there are some contractual problems involved.
<br />This Board has no agreement with the franchise holder for Panel -Ads. The
<br />agreement was made in 1968 for one year. However, the holder of the franchise
<br />has been obtaining permits and the Legal Department is checking the permits
<br />to see if they extend the contract. Mr. Roemer continued that the City is
<br />going to open the contract for the trash containers to a number of bidders and
<br />will then be in a position to request that advertising matter carried not be
<br />in controversial areas.
<br />Mr. W. T. Hamilton, 2007 Northside Blvd., then read a statement to the Board
<br />in which he protested the use of public waste containers, or any city -
<br />controlled services, for advertising abortion.
<br />Mr. Roemer explained to Mr. Hamilton that the containers are not owned by the
<br />City. They are owned by a private franchised operation but are on public
<br />property. He then said that any new agreement would have a clause spelling out
<br />in detail what might be advertised.
<br />REQUEST FOR DISPOSITION OF VEHICLE
<br />The Board received a request from Forrest R..West, Building Commissioner, that
<br />a Plymouth automobile, demolished in a single car accident, be assigned to the
<br />Municipal Services Facility for disposition.Upon motion made, seconded and
<br />carried, the Board assigned the vehicle to Stanley M. Przybylinski,-Manager of
<br />the Municipal Services Facility, for disposition.
<br />APPROVAL OF TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES
<br />The Board received a request from the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting., for the
<br />installation of Stop Signs at the intersections of Riverside Drive and Joyce,
<br />Lathrop, Oakwood, Academy, Blyler, Good and Sherman because of, the increased
<br />traffic volume on Riverside Drive. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the
<br />Board approved the installation.
<br />REQUEST TO BLOCK GREENLAWN AVENUE
<br />Miss Marilyn Preston, of the Youth Advocacy Program, appeared before'1 he Board
<br />to request that a portion of Greenlawn Avenue, adjacent to Potawatomi Park, be
<br />blocked from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 18, 1973 for a bicycle
<br />race. Upon -motion made, seconded and carried, the Board referred the request
<br />to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting for investigation and report.
<br />REQUEST FOR MINI -MARATHON
<br />The Board received a request from the South Bend Track Club to hold a "Mini -
<br />Marathon" on Sunday, August 5, 1973 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The letter
<br />stated that they have been in contact with Clem Hazinski, Manager of the
<br />Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, regarding this event. Upon motion made,
<br />seconded and carried, the Board approved the request subject to final arrange-
<br />ments being cleared with Mr. Hazinski and the Police Department being notified.
<br />CHANGE ORDERS - TOPICS PROJECT T6000(6)
<br />The Board received two change orders in the Topics Project T6000(6), the
<br />Main Street viaduct project. One Change Order was for curb and was an increase
<br />of $327.98 and one Change Order was for sodding and was an increase of $310.13.
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the change orders were approved.
<br />RECOMMENDATION FOR INSTALLATION OF STREET LIGHTS
<br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the installation
<br />of the following street lights:
<br />A. Keller, i block east of Brookfield. $45.00/yr. 7,000L
<br />B. 3700 Block Huron St, 7,000L. $45.00/yr.
<br />C. Prast Blvd. midblock east of Huey, 7,000L. $45.00/yr.
<br />D. York at Georgian Drive, 7,000L. $45.00/yr.
