REGULAR'MEETING <br />JULY 16, 1973 <br />Mr. Farrand then read the following excerpts from the Board of Public Safety <br />meeting of July 10, 1973: <br />"Mr. Gallagher referred to a <br />letter <br />received by -the Board of Public <br />Works from Brigadier General <br />Ahner <br />in Indianapolis indicating that <br />he was sending Colonel John <br />Keller <br />to South Bend to review this <br />situation. Mr. Gallagher said <br />that he met with Colonel Keller <br />yesterday and Colonel Keller <br />verbally <br />agreed that there are <br />several actions the National <br />Guard <br />will take. They will be <br />confirmed by letter but they <br />will <br />include cutting the weeds and <br />the Corps of Engineers will <br />use railroad <br />ties and cable to fence <br />the property. They will also <br />post <br />signs and pass out material. <br />Mr. Gallagher said the Board <br />would <br />now wait for further word from <br />the Army." <br />Mr. Seitz reported to the Board that a crew had been sent out and the weeds on <br />the private property on the western boundary of the Armory have ceen cut. Names <br />of owners of this property will be obtained and they will be billed for the weed <br />cutting. The Armory should now follow through and cut their weeds. <br />O MEMO FROM JAMES A. ROEMER RE: MIAMI STREET VIADUCT <br />Q <br />The Board received the following memorandum: <br />U <br />To: Board of Public Works <br />From: James A. Roemer <br />Subject: Miami Street Viaduct <br />Date: July 10, 1973 <br />The City Code Ordinance Sec. 20-95 deals with street obstruction. <br />It forbids drivers and their vehicles to occupy any street so as to <br />interfere with or interrupt the passage of other cars or vehicles. <br />In light of the fact that the streets are properly marked to <br />indicate the clearance of the viaduct in question, no further action <br />is indicated. The police are already authorized to issue a ticket <br />under Sec. 20-95. <br />It is suggested that a memorandum be sent to the Chief of Police <br />so that he can call this matter to the attention of the force. <br />s/ James A. Bureau Head - Ralph Wadzinski 287-9887 <br />Both monitor all department calls by radio in residence <br />2. Summer Storms: <br />Emergency supplies of signs, barricades and other signage is <br />constantly kept available at Door #7, M.S.F.
