REGULAR'MEETING JULY 16, 1973 Mr. Farrand then read the following excerpts from the Board of Public Safety meeting of July 10, 1973: "Mr. Gallagher referred to a letter received by -the Board of Public Works from Brigadier General Ahner in Indianapolis indicating that he was sending Colonel John Keller to South Bend to review this situation. Mr. Gallagher said that he met with Colonel Keller yesterday and Colonel Keller verbally agreed that there are several actions the National Guard will take. They will be confirmed by letter but they will include cutting the weeds and the Corps of Engineers will use railroad ties and cable to fence the property. They will also post signs and pass out material. Mr. Gallagher said the Board would now wait for further word from the Army." Mr. Seitz reported to the Board that a crew had been sent out and the weeds on the private property on the western boundary of the Armory have ceen cut. Names of owners of this property will be obtained and they will be billed for the weed cutting. The Armory should now follow through and cut their weeds. O MEMO FROM JAMES A. ROEMER RE: MIAMI STREET VIADUCT Q The Board received the following memorandum: U To: Board of Public Works From: James A. Roemer Subject: Miami Street Viaduct Date: July 10, 1973 The City Code Ordinance Sec. 20-95 deals with street obstruction. It forbids drivers and their vehicles to occupy any street so as to interfere with or interrupt the passage of other cars or vehicles. In light of the fact that the streets are properly marked to indicate the clearance of the viaduct in question, no further action is indicated. The police are already authorized to issue a ticket under Sec. 20-95. It is suggested that a memorandum be sent to the Chief of Police so that he can call this matter to the attention of the force. s/ James A. Roemer City Attorney Upon motion made, seconded and filed, the Board ordered the memorandumfiled and the Clerk was directed to send a copy of it to Police Chief Robert J. Urban. MEMORANDUM RE: CIVIL PREPAREDNESS PROCEDURE The Board received the following memorandum: To: Rollin E. Malor disasters or man-made or other: Contact: Bureau Head - Clem Hazinski 272-9508 Asst. Bureau Head - Ralph Wadzinski 287-9887 Both monitor all department calls by radio in residence 2. Summer Storms: Emergency supplies of signs, barricades and other signage is constantly kept available at Door #7, M.S.F.
