REGULAR MEETING JULY 16, 1973 <br />REQUEST FOR PARKING - 100 BLOCK NORTH MICHIGAN STREET <br />Mr. Charles F. Lennon, Jr., Director of the Department of Redevelopment, requested <br />that the Board allow parking in the 100 Block of North Michigan Street for the <br />next 60 days in response to requests from local merchants. A check has been made <br />and there will not be construction in that area at that time. Portable parking <br />meters could be brought in and angle parking allowed. Upon motion made, seconded <br />and carried, the Board approved the request to have portable parking meters placed <br />in the 100 Block of North Michigan Street to allow angle parking for approximately <br />the next 60 days. The Clerk was directed to notify Mr. Julius Berta of'::the <br />Parking Meter Department and ask him to meet with Mr. Lennon to work out <br />arrangements immediately. <br />PETITION TO VACATE ALLEY - BETWEEN LOTS 13 AND 14, FRANTZ'S THIRD ADDITION, <br />NORTH OF STATE ROAD 23, WEST OF GEORGE STREET <br />Roland W. Goheen,.by his Attorney, W. E. Voor, files his petition to vacate an <br />alley ten (10) feet wide lying between Lot Numbered Thirteen (13) on the <br />Westerly side thereof in Frantz's Third addition to the City of South Bend, and <br />Lots Numbered Fourteen (14) and Fifteen (15) in Frantz's Second Addition Tying <br />to the Easterly -side thereof and running from the Northerly right of way line <br />of State Road Numbered Twenty-three (23) Northwesterly to a Twelve (12) foot <br />alley as shown on the attached drawings and indicated in red. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the petition was referred to the -Bureau <br />of Engineering for preliminary investigation and report to the Board. <br />PETITION TO VACATE ALLEY - FROM NOTRE DAME AVENUE WEST TO THE NORTH -SOUTH 'ALLEY <br />BETWEEN COLFAX AVENUE AND WASHINGTON STREET <br />Ralph W. Ganser et al, by their Attorney Jack C. Dunfee, Jr., file their petition <br />to vacate the alley from Notre Dame Avenue west to the North -South alley between <br />Colfax Avenue and Washington Street, lying between Lots Numbered 307.and 308 <br />as shown on Cottrell's First Addition to the Town of Lowell, now the City of <br />South Bend. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the petition was referred to the Bureau <br />of Engineering for preliminary investigation and report to the Board. <br />LETTER FROM BRIGADIER GENERAL AHNER RE: INDIANA NATIONAL GUARD ARMORY PROPERTY <br />The Board received the following letter: <br />July 6, 1973 <br />Chairman <br />Board of Public Works <br />City -County Building <br />South Bend, Indiana 46601 <br />Dear Sir: <br />Your letter of 3 July 1973 relative to problem caused by motorcyclists <br />utilizing armory property at 1901 Kemble Avenue initiated action on.my <br />part to determine reason for failure to respond to previous letter sent <br />by Mr. James A. Roemer. <br />An investigation of this matter reveals that Colonel Morris Foist, <br />Facilities Officer for this Department, has been performing Active <br />Duty Training as a Reserve Officer the past three weeks and is <br />presently in Spokane, Washington; consequently, no action has been <br />taken on your request. <br />To expedite action on .your request 1 am sending Colonel John Keller to <br />South Bend Monday, 9 July, to.reView the entire matter and to take, <br />necessary action required to resolve the problem. <br />Your interest in bringing this problem to my attention is appreciated <br />and i am sure that we can resolve it to everyone's satisfaction. <br />Sincerely, <br />s/ Alfred F.
