REGULAR MEETING JULY 16, 1973 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works convened at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, <br />Judy 16,.19.73 with all members present. Minutes of the last meeting were reviewed <br />and approved. <br />OPENING OF BIDS - FIRE APPARATUS <br />This being the time. set for receiving bids for the sale of fire apparatus, the <br />following bids were opened and publicly read, the Clerk having tendered proofs <br />of publication in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri-County News which were <br />found to be sufficient. <br />ITEM 1. One (1) 1957 Maxim Fire Engine <br />Bid - $975.00 -Donald Kaufman, Box 166A, R.R. #1, Edwardsburg, Michigan <br />Bid - $2,000.00-Gordon Alan Perry, t35 E. 12th St., Mishawaka, Indiana <br />ITEM 2. One (1) American .LaFrance Fire Engine - 1952 <br />Bid - $877.00 Donald Kaufman, Box 166A, R.R. #1, Edwardsburg, Michigan <br />ITEM 3. One (1) 1950 Maxim Fire Engine <br />No Bidders <br />ITEM 4. One (1) Stahl Aerial Ladder <br />No Bidders <br />ITEM 5. Fire Alarm Boxes <br />Bid - $2.00 Per Unit - Rayce Salvage Company, North Liberty, Indiana <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board rejected the bid of $2.00 per <br />unit on the Fire Alarm Boxes since it was below the minimum price recommended <br />by Fire Chief Jack R. Bland. <br />The Board, upon motion made, seconded and carried, referred the remaining bids <br />to Assistant Chief Nagy for investigation and report to the Board. <br />ASSESSMENT ROLL HEARING - VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 3377 1973 <br />This being the date set for holding a hearing on the Assessment Roll of Vacation <br />Resolution No. 3377, 1973, hearing was held for the vacation of the alley running <br />south from Madison Street to the first East-West alley between St. Peter and <br />Notre Dame Avenue. <br />The Clerk tendered proofs of publication of notice in the South Bend -Tribune and <br />the Tri-County News on June 15, 22 and 29, 1973 and they were found to be <br />sufficient. <br />No remonstrators appeared and no written remonstrances having been received, upon <br />motion made, seconded and carried, the Assessment Roll showing no net damages <br />and no net benefits was approved as adopted and said Resolution is in'all things <br />ratified and confirmed and said proceedings closed. <br />REQUEST FOR SIDEWALK DAYS SALE BY PENNEY'S STORE <br />Mr. Charles F. Lennon, Jr., Director of the Department of Redevelopment, was <br />present and transmitted to the Board a request from the J. C. Penney Store, 220 <br />South Michigan Street, to hold a Sidewalk Days Sale in front of their store on <br />Thursday, July 19 and Friday, July 20. Mr.. Lennon said he would recommend that <br />approval be given. The Board, upon motion made, seconded and carried, approved <br />the request with the requirement that the store carry indemnification insurance <br />to hold the City harmless. <br />
