LASALLE BE BLOCKED OFF - INDIANA STATE BLACK CAUCUS
The following letter was presented to the Board:
812 Almond Court
South Bend, Indiana 46617
June 12, 1973
South Bend Board of Works
City of South Bend,
County/City Building
South Bend, Indiana 46601
Gentlemen:
The executive Board of the Indiana State Black Caucus, chaired by the honorable
Richard G. Hatcher, will meet in South Bend Saturday June 23rd at 2:00 p.m.
Following our meeting, an outing will be held on the lawn of Mrs. Betty Lynk,
620 W. LaSalle Avenue. This will begin at 5:00 p.m. and will last approximately 4
hours.
The purpose of this letter is to request that the 600 block of W. LaSalle Street
be blocked off during this period for parking purposes. We expect approximately
200 persons for this lawn outing.
Thank you very much.
Sincerely,
s/ 'Odessa Earles, Secretary
Indiana State Black Caucus
The following memo from Clem Hazinski, Manager of the Bureau of Traffic and
Lighting, was attached to the above letter;
A request from Odessa Earles, Indiana State Black Caucus to "block off" the
600 block of W. LaSalle was received by this Bureau. Because of the time ele-
ment involved this memo is attached.
1 called Odessa Earles and informed her that this Bureau would post the 600
block of W. LaSalle on Saturday, June 23, 1973 with No Parking Signs. I recom-
mended that an attendant assist in parking the vehicles or that a uniformed police
officer be hired to control the parking of vehicles.
She was further informed that closing of the 600 block would not only defeat her
purpose of having guests gain access but that the Board has a policy of requiring
indemnification when a street is closed for purposes such as this. Hence the
No Parking signage recommendation.
Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved Mr. Hazinski's
recommendation for No Parking signs.
STREET LIGHT PETITION - OPPOSITE ALLEY WHICH DEAD ENDS INTO KELLER BETWEEN COLLEGE
AND BROOKFIELD STREETS
A petition bearing eight signatures requesting the installation of a street
light at the opposite alley which dead ends into Keller Street between College
Street and Brookfield Street was, upon motion made, seconded and carried, re-
ferred to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting for investigation and report.
RECOMMENDATION FOR STREET LIGHT ON HIGH STREET, SOUTH OF DONMOYER
The following letter was received by the Board:
June 15, 1973
Board of Public Works
County -City Building
South Bend, Indiana
