1 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />MAY 21, 1973 <br />SIGNING OF CONTRACT AND PERFORMANCE BOND - PROJECT R & S 58, NORTHSIDE BLVD. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board signed the contract and approved <br />the maintenance bond with Rieth-Riley Construction Company for Project R & S 58, <br />Northside Boulevard from 130' west of -Francis Street to Wayne Street, in the <br />amount of $54,680.00. <br />RECOMMENDATION ON REQUEST -TO HOLD TENT SERVICES ON CITY -OWNED LOT <br />The Board received a memorandum from James A. Roemer, City Attorney concerning <br />a request made by the Emanuel Church of Deliverance to use a city -owned lot for <br />tent services. Mr. Roemer recommended that the Board disallow the request because <br />of the possibility of liability in case of falls, fire, etc. His recommendation <br />continued that the church could probably find private property to use for their <br />tent services and work out lease and indemnification arrangements with the owner. <br />Upon motion made, seconded -and carried, the Board accepted Mr. Roemer's recommendation <br />and disapproved the request. <br />REQUEST FOR MEETING ON GUIDELINES FOR WALKS AND BIKE RIDES <br />Miss Cynthia J. Remke, Co -coordinator for the Michiana Walk for Development, asked <br />for a meeting with a representative of the Board on setting up guidelines for <br />future walks. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board directed that <br />Mr. Clem Hazinski, Manager, -Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, be asked to set up a <br />meeting with Mr. Seitz, Captain Sweitzer of the Police Department, Donald Germann, <br />V St. Joseph Count Civil Defense a representative of the Charitable Solicitations <br />P Y , P <br />Commission and Miss Remke to work out guidelines for any future activitiesofthis <br />nature. <br />RECOMMENDATION FOR ADDITIONAL OR UP -DATED STREET LIGHTING <br />The Board received the following letter: <br />May 18, 1973 <br />Board of Public Works <br />County -City Building <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />Gentlemen: <br />The Bureau of Traffic and Lighting submits the following recommendations <br />on petitions and requests for additional or up -dated street lighting to <br />the Board of Public Works for its action. <br />Denied Approved X <br />73-1 Jackson Road - Miami to York Road <br />Petitioners: Joe Kocy and Councilman Taylor <br />Install 13 - 2011000L, MV, OH, WP on existing pole line using 11-16 <br />ft. arms with a request to I & M to plan new pole line at arterial <br />spacing. <br />Cost: 13 - 20,000L.MV OH WP C@ $5.50/unit/mo. = $71.50/mo. or $858/yr. <br />Denied Approved X <br />73-2 Hepler, Rerick, Kettering and Crestwood <br />Requested by Robert Vaereqyck via Councilman Parent. Original request was <br />for a location on Hass Drive. After a field check, entire area was felt to <br />be in need of complete lighting. <br />Remove: 1 - 4,000L MV C@ $-3.15/mo. - 3.15 <br />Replace: 14- 4,000L w/7,000L MV OH WP .35/mo. = $4.90 <br />Install: 18- 7,000L MV OH WP C@ 3.75/mo = 67.50 <br />Cost: $69.25/mo. or $831.00/yr. <br />
