,,.. 14 <br />3; <br />4� � <br />3/19/73 <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board accepted the recommendation <br />of the Legal Department and awarded the bids. <br />LETTER FROM MAYOR MILLER RE: MOVING OF POWELL HOUSE <br />The Board received the following letter: <br />Mr. William Richardson <br />Director, Department of Public Works <br />Attention: Board of Public Works <br />Pursuant to a conversation with Chuck Lennon and yourself, and <br />based on the information he provided you, I am pleased to write <br />you this request concerning the Powell House presently located <br />behind the Inwood's Store. <br />In order for the House Mover, the Mitschelen Company, to move <br />the Powell House (The first home owned and built by a negro <br />family in South Bend), I am asking that you remove three parking <br />meters on the East side of the Street immediately North of the <br />entrance to the Ries Parking Lot on Lafayette Street. The removal <br />of the parking meters will relieve the Restoration Committee from <br />a $275.00 cost to the Morse Electric Company, as it relates to the <br />traffic signalization element at Lafayette Street. <br />If agreeable to waive this cost, please notify the house mover by <br />letter so that he can plan his move and check back with your proper <br />representative: <br />Mitschelen House Mover <br />60648 Lilac Road <br />South Bend, Indiana Phone 291-1850 <br />Thank you for your help in this matter and I appreciate your helping <br />our city preserve some aspects of our cultural heritage. <br />Sincerely, <br />s/ Jerry J. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the request <br />and directed that a copy of the Mayor's letter be sent to Mr. Clem Hazinski, <br />Director, Bureau of Traffic and Lighting. <br />FILING OF ASSESSMENT ROLL - VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 3376 1973 <br />William J. Richardson, City Engineer, files an assessment roll showing the <br />award of damages and assessment of benefits in Vacation Resolution No. 3376, <br />1973 for the vacation of the north -south alley between Meade Street and <br />Fremont Street running north from Bertrand Street to the south r/w line of the <br />east -west alley and the north r/w line of the east -west alley to the south r/w <br />line of Roger Street. <br />Reserving the rights and easements of all utilities and the Municipal. City <br />of South Bend, Indiana to construct and maintain any facilities including, <br />but not limited to, the following: electric, telephone, gas, water, sewer, <br />surface water control structures and ditches, within the vacated right of <br />way, unless such rights are released by the individual utilities. <br />The following property may be injuriously or beneficially affected by such <br />vacation: Lots 229 and 228 of Kaley's 3rd Addition and Lots 204 and 205 <br />of Kaley's 2nd Sub. <br />Total Net Benefits $0.00 <br />Total Net Damages $0.00 <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board adopted the Assessment Roll <br />
