1170 <br />3/12/73 <br />REQUEST FROM 150TH FIELD ARTILLERY BATTERY RE: EASTER SEAL CAMPAIGN <br />The following letter was referred to the Board: <br />Mayor Jerry Miller <br />Mayor's Office <br />County -City Building <br />South Bend, Indiana 46601 <br />Dear Mayor Miller: <br />1. Our Battery has been asked to participate in the start of the Easter Seal <br />Fund -Raising Campaign of the week -end of March 24th and 25th. We have <br />decided that we will participate in the drive on Saturday, March 24th, from <br />9:00 a.m, to 5:00 p.m. <br />2. Accordingly we make the following requests of the City of South Bend: <br />(1) That we be allowed to park military vehicles at pre -selected <br />intersections in the downtown area of South Bend. (These vehicles will <br />be parked so as to premit the normal flow of traffic) <br />(2) That we be allowed to solicit money from cars as they are stopped at <br />these various intersections for lights or stop signs. <br />3. Further we would appreciate your assistance, in choosing intersections for <br />our collection procedure to take place. We anticipate twenty men participating <br />in the program with four men stationed at each intersection. If you have any <br />questions about our plans or have any suggestions that may enhance our success, <br />please contact 1SG Fred J. Beam, Btry. FA, INARNG <br />Community Involvement Officer <br />The Clerk was directed to check with the Charitable Solicitations Commission to <br />see whether the Easter Seal Campaign has received a permit for their solicitation. <br />The letter from Lt. Butterfield was referred to Mr. Clem Hazinski, Director, <br />Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, with the request that he contact Lt. Butterfield <br />and make arrangements with him as soon as possible. <br />REQUEST _TO_SELL _POPPIES - AMERICAN LEGION -AUXILIARY, UNIT NO. 50 <br />The Board received the following letter: <br />Board of Public Works <br />City of South Bend <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />Gentlemen: <br />We are, again, asking for permission to sell our veteran -made poppies <br />on the street on May 18 and 19, 1973.
