3/12/73
In closing, I have some recommendations to make concerning the re -designing
of this portion of Walnut Street and am requesting that the City Engineer contact
me as to when he wants to discuss these.
Thank you in advance for your positive cooperation concerning this project.
Sincerely,
s/ Walter T. Kopczynski
Sixth District Council
This matter was brought to the attention of the Department of Public Works by
the Board of Public Safety and the following memo was received from Mr. Raymond
Andrysiak:
To: William J. Richardson, P. E.
From: Ray S. Andrysiak
Subject: Guardrails in the 500 and 600 block of S. Walnut St.
The track elevation fund was originally set up to finance a proposed
extension of the track elevation, more particularly the crossing at
eel Olive and Washington Streets. This fund was also intended to finance
an overpass at Sheridan Avenue when Sheridan Avenue was planned as a
major thorofare from Sample Street north to Lincolnway Way West. I
don't believe this money can be used to repair the incidental ramps
V and rails due to the track elevation. The other item to consider is
that the County has taken over bridges and overpasses, therefore this
track elevation money could be used as part of the City share of the
costs for the proposed Olive -Sample overpass.
In regards to the Walnut Street RR crossing between Ford and Huron,
the outside survey is almost completed. The plans have been started
on the drafting board.
Mr. Richardson said that there is a question as to whether it is the City's
responsibility of the railroad's responsibility to make these repairs. It
appears it will have to be the City.
LETTER FROM INDIANA STATE HIGHWAY COMMISSION RE: COOPER BRIDGE
Ms. Patricia DeClercq, Clerk
Board of Public Works
City of South Bend,
South Bend, Indiana 46601
Dear Ms. DeClercq:
In response to your letter of February 27, 1973, concerning the condition of
the pavement of SR 23.bridge over the St. Joseph River, the Cooper bridge, I
am referring a copy of your letter and this letter to our District Engineer
in the LaPorte District requesting him to review the condition of this pavement
and see what can be done to improve this situation.
I am also requesting that he furnish me with a report on the conditions and
the actions he has taken.
We wish to thank you for calling this matter to our attention.
Sincerely,
s/ Richard A. Boehning
Chairman
