3/12/73 PETITION TO.VACATE ALLEY - ST. JOSEPH'S HOSPITAL St. Joseph's Hospital of South Bend, by their attorney, Timothy H. Woods, 1800 American National Bank Building, South Bend, Indiana, files their petition for the vacation of the alley running South from Madison Street, between St. Peter Street and Notre Dame Avenue. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the petition was referred to the Engineering Department for preliminary investigation and report to the Board. REQUEST FOR VARIANCE OF BUILDING CODE - REDEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT The following letter was received by the Board: Board of Public Works Room 1300, County -City Building South Bend, Indiana 46601 Attn: Mr. William Richardson, P. E. Gentlemen: We have a request for a variance to the Building Code from A.G.A. Realty Corporation; their contractor, H. F. Glaser Construction Company; and their architect, Everett Jewell, affecting the J.M.S. Annex Building (123 West Washington Avenue). They are asking that the Board consider a 6'-8" overhang to the second floor framing system for a length of 76'-611.along Washington Street only. The overhang would serve as office space at the 16'-4" level and as a Building Canopy for South exposure show windows for the first floor retail space. They will deliver a set of drawings illustrating this condition before your Board meets on Monday, March 12, 1973. Yours truly, s/ Edwin R. Bauer Staff Architect Dept. of Redevelopment Mr. Bauer was present and displayed to the Board an artist's sketch of the proposed building and preliminary plans. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board gave contingent approval to the request and referred the matter to Mr. Forrest West, Director, Department of Buildings and Permits, for his approval. LETTER AND RECOMMENDATION REGARDING GUARDRAILS - 500 AND 600 BLOCK SOUTH WALNUT The Board received the following letter: South Bend Board of Works County -City Building South Bend, Indiana 46601 Gentlemen: 1 hereby request that the street retaining wall and guard rails be rebuilt as necessary in the 500 and 600 block of South Walnut Street. This has been requested of the City Engineer on August 24, 1972, but I have not received any definite plans concerning this project. Photographs showing the deteriorated and dangerous conditions existing at this location have been given to the Board of Safety on March 6, 1973, and will be forwarded to the Board of -Works. Certainly this project should be given top priority and can be financed with revenue sharing money. 1 1
