1211 <br />1/15/73 <br />Gentlemen: <br />Cadet WtIliam W. Schmidt has submitted his request for a leave of <br />absence from the Police Cadet Program for a period of six months. <br />He will be sworn into the U.S. Marine Corps for training during <br />that time. <br />We respectfully request that this request be granted to become <br />effective January 1, 1973. <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />A/ Robert W. Seals, Chief of Police <br />RWS:mm <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried the Board approved the Chief's <br />recommendation for a leave of absence for six months effective January <br />-1 , 1973. <br />REQUEST FOR REINSTATEMENT IN CADET CORPS_ - THOMAS A. TURZA <br />The following letter was presented to the Board: <br />January 12, 1973 <br />Board of Public Works and Safety <br />County City Building <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />Gentlemen: <br />Thomas A. Turza, a former cadet with this Department, resigned his <br />Cadet status in late 1972, based upon family and domestic problems <br />severe enough to cause h-is resignation at the time. He has now <br />approached this Office with a request for reinstatement on the basis <br />that some relief of the domestic situation has been effected, and his <br />frank admission that he feels he moved too quickly in his resignation <br />from the Cadet Corps. <br />In view of the investment already represented by the Cadet Corps <br />experience and training attained by this applicant, in view of <br />openings existing within the Cadet Corps complement and in view <br />of his youth as applied to the above actions, this Office respectfully <br />requests approval of a reinstatement within the Cadet Corps Program <br />with a Board admonishment requiring his immediate attention to improving <br />the grade level maintained by the applicant in his studies at IUSB. <br />Effective date for the above recommendation is January 16, 1973. <br />Respectfully, <br />/s/ Robert W. .Seals, Chief of Police <br />RWS:mm <br />It was moved, seconded and carried that action on this matter be delayed <br />for further investigation by the Board. <br />APPLICATIONS FOR POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Applications for the Police Department for Lewis E. Verash, Charles M. <br />Parkes and Steven Wesley Coyle were filed with the Board and referred to <br />the Personnel Department. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARD DIVISION <br />Mr. Isaiah Steed, Sub -Standard Director, appeared before the Board and <br />matters pertaining to his department were discussed. <br />
