12/26/72 <br />NOTICE TO RAILROAD TO REPAIR TRACKS <br />The following letter was directed to the Penn Central Railroad: <br />December 26, 1972 <br />Mr. J. J. Baffa-Division Engineer <br />Penn Central Railroad <br />1600 S. Lumber <br />Chicago, Illinois <br />Dear Mr. Baffa: <br />The City of South Bend is concerned with the poor maintenance of <br />crossing of your railroad and.city streets. Reference is made <br />especially to the one in the 200 block of West ':wing. <br />Correspondence was directed to you on May 16, 1972 to which no <br />reply was received. Also your Track Superintendent at Elkhart was €: <br />notified of the poor condition of this crossing by correspondence <br />dated October 31, 1972 and November 29, 1972. No action has been <br />taken as of this date. <br />Neglect has deteriorated this crossing -to the point where the rotted <br />ties and headers no dictate reconstruction. The present conditions re- <br />sult in a hazard to public safety. <br />You or your responsible representative are hereby directed to appear <br />before the City of South Bend, Indiana Board of Public Works and <br />Safety, Room 1308, County City Building at 9:30 A.M.,.on Tuesday, <br />January 2, 1973 and.show, cause why repairs to this and other crossings <br />in the City of South Bend, Indiana have not been made. <br />Board of Public Works and Safety <br />s/ Charles A. Richardson, Member <br />USE OF SPECIAL POLICE OFFICER - NATIONAL BANK <br />A letter was received from Chief Seals regarding a complaint that the <br />National Bank Olive,Street Branch has been using the services of a <br />Special Police Officer to direct and control traffic in the city streets <br />at their braneh bank at Olive and Western Avenue. Upon motion made, <br />seconded and carried, the Clerk was directed to send a letter to the <br />Six Investigation and Security Service, with copies to Chief Seals and <br />Mr. Joseph Baldoni of the National Bank, to inform them that a special <br />Pollce Officer may control or direct traffic on private property but <br />does not have the authority to control or direct traffic�on city <br />streets or thoroughfares. <br />A.C.T.I.O.N. IN -KIND CONTRIBUTIONS FOR FIRE STATIONS <br />In -kind contributions for use of Fire Stations #10, #7 and #8 for the <br />month of January were received and ordered filed. <br />BIDS FOR CITY VEHICLES <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board directed the Clerk <br />to readvertise for city vehicles with bids to be returned on January <br />8, 1973. <br />REQUEST TO OBTAIN BIDS FOR JANITORIAL SERVICES <br />A request from Stanley Przybylinski, Manager of the Municipal Service <br />Facility, to obtain bids for janitorial services for the building, was <br />upon motion made, seconded and carried, ordered to be advertised with <br />bids to be returned on January 8, 1973. <br />
