ft <br />E <br />12/4/72 <br />informing the Board that Mrs. Clementine Klota had asked the <br />Church to use the house, Christ the King Parish has a project <br />to try to privide housing for poor people, and they will try <br />to rehabilitate the house for this purpose. They are in the <br />process of obtaining estimates to find out how much it will cost <br />to bring the house up to standard, The Board instructed the <br />Clerk to write to Rev. Maley to state they are in accord with <br />his work and ask him to keep in touch with Mr. Steed in co-or- <br />dinating their efforts to bring the house up to standard. <br />428 North Main Street Mr.' S. R. Dunnuck had previously written <br />to the Board asking that the structure at 428 North Main street <br />not be demolished until spring. Upon motion made, seconded and <br />carried, the Board denied his request and stated if he needs <br />help in removing the elevator machine he is donating to the Boy <br />Scouts, the city might be able to help him trove it. <br />TO SHOW CAUSE <br />Mr. Steed requested permi ss ion to bring the foli;owing persons <br />before the Board to show cause why their various buildings should <br />not be demolished: <br />4 <br />U <br />U 522 E. Ohio Street John Barth, deceased <br />149 E. Elder Street Harry & Ester Fox <br />537 E. Haney Street Henry E. Belle Triisble <br />412 East Calvert Street Donald C. Gervae M. James <br />309 E. Pennsylvania Avenue Louis J. Poulos. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board authorized Mr. <br />Steed to request the above named persons to appear before the Board. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the request of Mr. Sweeney <br />for a five minute recess was granted. The meeting recessed at 10:35. <br />The meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety reconvened at <br />10:47 P.M. <br />REDEVELOPMENT COMMISSION WILL SEEK BIDS <br />Mr. Steed informed the Board that the Redevelopment Commission will <br />seek bids for the demolition of the structures at 615 Howard Street <br />and 742 Frances Street. <br />1026 East Indiana Avenue The matter of the cleaning up the premises <br />of 1026 East Indiana Avenue was discussed. Upon motion made, seconded <br />and carried, the matter was referred to the Legal Department for <br />study on process to foreclose on the bond. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT TO BE NOTIFIED OF DEMOLITION CONTRACTS <br />Mr. Sweeney stated that many times after the news had been printed <br />in the newspaper about seeking bids to demolish buiidings, the <br />several buildings had been vandalized and robbed. The Clerk was <br />instructed to write to the Chief of Detectives of the Police De- <br />partment informing him of buildings which are about to be demolished by <br />contract and asking him to have his men keep an eye on the properties <br />so people cannot vandalize or rob them. <br />LETTER FROM COUNCILMAN NEWBURN <br />December 4, 1972 <br />Board of Public Works <br />County City Building <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />Gentlemen: <br />I would like to urge the Board of Public Works to'put a stop to the <br />littering of city streets by demolition companies. <br />
