7 11/20/72 428 North Main Street The following letter was presented to the Board: November 17, 1972 Mr. Isaiah Steed, Director Sub -Standard Building Dept. City of South Bend County -City Building South Bend, Indiana 46601 Dear Sir: In reply to your letter of November 15, we wish to advise that our accessory building at 428 No. Main Street has been cleared of per- sonal property except for the automobile garaged there and a large and heavy elevator machine which.is in storage there. Neither of. these items are to be considered as. salvage for the demolition contractor. The elevator machine has been donated by us to the Boy Scouts of Amer- ica organization for use as a ski tow machine at their camp and they will remove it as soon as they can fina a means for handling it. We request that the demolition of this building be deferred until Spring to avoid undue hardship to the tenants of the main building, inasmuch as the contract calls for the cleared site to be graded and seeded in grass which is now too late in the year to germinate. The site would therefore be a mud field all winter and a nuisance to the tenants. As Mr. Gardner advised you, the building is structurally sound, and the electrical service has been removed so there is no hazard to anyone from its remaining. Very truly yours, G.E. VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 3369, 1972 - HEARING ON ASSESSMENT ROLL This being the date set for holding a hearing on the assessment roll of Vacation Resolution No. 336g, 1972, hearing is now held for the vacation of certain alleys and a portion of Rose Street and. Cushing Street. The Clerk tendered proofs of .publication of notice in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri County News on November 3, November 10 and Novem- ber 17, 1972 and same were found to be sufficient. No remonstrators appeared and no written remonstrances having been received, upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Assessment Roll showing no net damages and no net benefits was approved as adopted and said Resolution in all things ratified and confirmed and said proceedings closed. Richardson, City Engineer, files an assessment roll showing the award of damages and the assessment of benefits in Vacation Res- olution No. 3370, 1972 for the vacation of streets and alleys in the Merry Avenue Urban Remewal area.
