11/13/72 <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanismously carried, the recommendation <br />was accepted and the request to send the two officers to Louisville, <br />Kentucky, was granted. <br />EXTENSION OF SICK LEAVE - SERGEANT DONALD NIEZGODSKI <br />A request was received from Chief Seals recommending that the sick <br />leave of Donald Niegzodski be extended until the end of November. Upon <br />motion made, seconded and carried, the request was granted. <br />STATISTICAL REPORT FILED <br />The Statistical Report of the Police department for the month of <br />October, 1972 was filed with the Board. <br />BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARD DIVISION <br />Mr. Isaiah Steed, Sub -Standard Director, appeared before the Board and <br />matters pertaining to his department were discussed. <br />® A list was submitted by Mr. Steed of contracts awarded to Bryant's <br />Excavating and Demolition Company which have not been fulfilled. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried the matter was referred to <br />the Legal Department for an opinion as to voiding the contracts that <br />have been awarded. <br />2221 Smith Street This being the date set for receiving bids for <br />the demolition of the property at 2221 Smith Street, the following <br />bids were received but not opened: From Michiana Build-°ers; O'Neal <br />Trucking Company and B & J Demolition. Mr. Durwood Elliott, 1130 <br />East Cedar Street, South Bend, Indiana, appeared before the.Board <br />and informed them he is working on the house to put it in standard <br />■ condition. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the matter was <br />continued for two weeks. <br />202 Pennsylvania At Mr. Steed's request this matter was continued. <br />625 North Walnut Street Mr. Marvin Groves appeared before the Board <br />and said he has done some work on the house at 625 North Walnut. After <br />a full discussion about what has to be done on the structure to bring <br />it up to standard, it was the decision of the Board to accept a bid <br />that was previously opened and read. The award was made to B & J <br />Demolition on its low bid of $600.00. <br />710 North Hill Street Mr. Steed informed the Board that the structure <br />at 710 North Hill Street has been demolished but all of the.debris is <br />still in the yard. The Board instructed Mr. Steed to contact Bryant <br />Excavating and have them remove the debris immediately. <br />CHANGE ORDER NO. 1 CHIPPEWA DRIVE <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried the Board approved Change Order <br />No. 1 for the drive at 211-217 Chippewa Avenue. <br />HEARING ON VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 3370,1972 - MERRY AVENUE <br />This being the date set, hearing was had on Vacation Resolution No. <br />3370,1972 for the vacation of the streets and alleys in the Merry Avenue <br />Urban Renewal Area. <br />The Clerk tendered proofs of publication of notice in the South <br />Bend Tribune and the Tri County News on the 3rd day of November, <br />and the lOth day of November, 1072 and same were found to be sufficient. <br />Harold Brueske, Attorney for Hurwich Iron Company; Lenoard Miller <br />representing the O'Brien Paint Company; Mrs. Lockmondy of Lockmondy <br />Brothers Lumber Company and Donald Lynn, representing the South Shore <br />Railroad Company all appeared before the Board to make sure that <br />Grant Street would not be closed. The Board assured them there were <br />no plans in this project to close Grant Street. <br />Huey Schoby, 2209 West -Washington Street, appeared before the Board <br />the request that Grant Street be closed, but the Board told him there <br />were no plans to close the street. <br />
