10/10/72 The purpose of this meeting serves the matter of keeping abreast in various areas of concern applicable to our Computor Program and is funded within the program grant for the computerization so involved. Respectfully, s/ Robert Seals Chief of Police RWS/mm Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board granted the request to send Sergeant Knepper to the Seminar. REQUEST TO SENT CAPTAIN ALBERT POELVOORDE TO DRUGS SEMINAR The Chief presented the following letter: October 5, 1972 Board of Public Works and Safety County City Building South Bend, Indiana Gentlemen: Approval is respectfully requested to allow Captain Albert Poelvoorde, commander of the Vice -Narcotics -Intelligence Comples to attend a Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Siminar sponsored by the Hooks Drugs; Inc., and to be held on Thursday, October 26, 1972, at 1:00 p.m. in Indianapolis, Indiana. This seminar, attended in the past, has proved of great value in our labors in the area of drug abuse, and this particular activity will result in the receipt by this department of some valuable narcotic identification aids. There is no cost except that of travel to be sustained by this department and travel funds, of course, are included in this area of our budget. - Respectfully yours, s/ Robert W. Seals Chief of Police RWS:mm Upon motion made, seconded and carried the Board granted the request to send Captain Poelvoorde to the seminar. BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB STANDARDS DIVISION Mr. Isaiah Steed, Sub -Standards Director, was present and the following matters pertaining to his department were discussed: 717-721 East Wenger Street Mr. Steed recommended that this building be demolished, and upon motion made, seconded and carried he was authorized to seek bids for the demolition. 625 North Walnut Street Mr. Marvin Groves, 1223 West Thomas Street, South Bend, Indiana, appeared before the Board as requested to show cause why the structure at 625 North Walnut Street should not be demolished. Mr. Groves informed the Board that there were people living in the house which was badly in need of.repair, and they had not paid rent in some time. He wants to fix the house up, but will not do so as long as the people are in the house. They are supposed to be relocated. The matter was continued for two weeks, and the Clerk was instructed to write to the relocation department of the Redevelopment Commission requesting them to expedite the matter. 1
