10/10/72 RETIREMENT - LIEUTENANT DONALD V. HOWELL. The following letter was presented by the Chifif: October 10, 1972 Board of Public Works and Safety 13th floor, County City Building South Bend, Indiana 46601 Re: Firefighter Donald V. Howell Honorable Members of the Board: Attached hereto please find the Application and Declaration for retirement of the above named firefighter, who wishes to make his retirement effective October 5, 1972. Appointed August 1, 1952, Firefighter Howell has completed twenty (20) years of service on the South Bend Fire Department. His birth ® date is August 23, 1929. I recommend that his retirement be granted, which I trust will meet with your approval. U Respectfully yours, SOUTH BEND FIRE DEPARTMENT s/ Jack R. Bland, Fire Chief JRB/ss Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board accepted the recommendation of the Chief and approved the retirement of Firefighter Howell with regret. The Board instructed the Clerk to write to Mr. Howell expressing their appreciation for his years of service to the community. POLICE DEPARTMENT Chief Seals was present and the following matters pertaining to his department were discussed. TRANSFER OF FUNDS IN THE BUDGET A letter was received from Chief Seals wherein he requested the transfer of $1,500.00 from P-12 Services Personal to P-262 Medical, Surgical and Dental within his budget. Upon motion made, seconded and carried this was referred to the Legal Department for the preparation of an ordinance. SERGEANT GERALD J.- KNEPPER TO SEMINAR The following letter was received from the Chief: October 6, 1972 Board of Public Works and Safety County City Building South Bend, Indiana Gentlemen: Approval is respectfully requested to allow Sergeant Gerald J. Knepper, head of the Data Processing Division, to attend a seminar on File Management Techniques sponsored by Century Products Users, and to be held October 15-17 in Atlanta, Georgia.
