REGULAR MEETING MARCH 10, 1975
Commission. The property•on both sides of the. alley is owned by
the petitioner and there has been no traffic on.the alley for many
years. The petitioner would•like to fence the property to avoid
vandalism which has been occurring. Mr. Farrand asked if there was
anyone else present who wished to speak on the vacation. No one
wished to speak. Mr. Barcome asked Mr. Mickelson if he had received
notification from the City that the property must be cleaned up.
Mr. Mickelson said he did and he said there has been considerable work
done in cleaning the property in the last ten days. Mr. Pickelson
said he has a meeting scheduled with Mr. Farrand for this afternoon
in regard to the property. Mr. Barcome noted that if the property had
been cleaned up and a fence installed, he did not think the neighborhood
would have any objections. Upon motion made, seconded and carried,
the Board confirmed the Vacation Resolution and referred the resolution
to the Department of Engineering for preparation of the Assessment Roll.
BID AWARDED - OLIVE STREET SEWER RECONSTRUCTION
The Board received the following recommendation from the Department
of Public Works:
0
C.0 "Gentlemen:
The Department of Public Works has reviewed the bids received
on the above referenced project. We note that the low base
bid is $273,126.70, while the low bid for the clay pipe
alternate is $241,975.10, or a difference of $31,151:60. As
can be seen from the attached tabulation sheet, where bids
were received for other alternates these prices were considerably
in excess of either of the above quoted figures.
While it is recognized that the specifications for the existing
pipe and the construction procedures and methods at the time this
pipe was installed.undoubtedly contribute to the many problems
now being experienced in Olive Street, it is felt that these
problems relate in large part to the number of sewer pipe joints.
Because of the longer length of the ductile iron pipe, which
reduces the number of joints and the ability of the pipe to
accept bedding irregularities, it is the judgment of this
Department that the ductile iron pipe bid should be the basis for
this award, and it is so recommended.
As indicated on the attached bid tabulation sheet, H. DeWulf
Mechanical Contractor, Inc., with a bid of $273,126.70, was the
low bidder for the base bid. It is the recommendation of this
Department that this contract be awarded to H. DeWulf Mechanical
Contractor, Inc.
Very truly yours,
s/ Rollin E. Farrand, P. E.
Director if
Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board accepted the recommenda-
tion and awarded the bid to H. DeWulf Mechanical Contractor, Inc. on
their low bid of $273,126.70, subject to the appropriation of funds.
PROJECT COMPLETION AFFIDAVIT A14D MAINTENANCE BOND - VENTILATION
IMPROVEMENTS, MUNICIPAL SERVICES FACILITY
The Project Completion Affidavit and Maintenance Bond for the Municipal
Services•Facility Ventilation Improvements were submitted to the Board.
The total cost of the project was $6,463.64. Upon motion made, seconded
and carried, the completion affidavit was approved and the maintenance
bond was ordered filed.
