FZ16 <br />REGULAR MEETING OCTOBER 14, 1974 <br />REPORT RE: COMPLAINTS ABOUT CURTIS PRODUCTS CO. ALLEY VACATION <br />Mr. Farrand reported to the Board that an investigation had been made <br />of qestions raised in regard to an alley vacated by Curtis Products, <br />Inc. between Carroll and Columbia Streets. The investigation revealed <br />that the building is still under construction and the lot is presently <br />being used for the storage of materials. Plans call for 15 parking <br />spaces for employees when the building is completed and employees <br />will not have to park on the street. The report also indicated that <br />the existing curb on Bronson Street was used as a form for the new <br />sidewalk installed, but'the width of the street remained the same. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the report was ordered filed. <br />TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES APPROVED <br />The Bureau of Traffic and Lighting recommended to the Board that <br />stop signs be installed at 23rd, 24th, 25th, 27th, 28th and 29th <br />Streets at their approach to Mishawaka Avenue. Upon motion made, <br />seconded and carried, the Board approved the installation. <br />LELAND AND FOREST INTERSECTION WITH PORTAGE AVENUE DISCUSSED <br />A discussion was held regarding the intersection of Leland and <br />Forest Avenues with Portage Avenue and whether there were stop signs <br />at the intersection. The matter was referred to the Bureau of <br />Traffic and Lighting for information. <br />REQUEST TO CIRCULATE PETITIONS FOR BUS FOR HANDICAPPED <br />Miss Helen Lake, representing the National Paraplegia Foundation, <br />requested permission from the Board to circulate petitions in the <br />downtown area to ask that a bus equipped to handle handicapped <br />individuals be obtained. The petitions would.be circulated in <br />the downtown area during regular retail hours from November 23rd <br />through the 30th. Mr. Farrand noted that the Public Transportation <br />Corporation has applied for a Federal Grant for such a bus and <br />suggested that this letter be referred to the P.T.C. for their <br />reply and for a recommendation to the Board regarding the petitions, <br />so moved, seconded and carried. <br />REQUEST - AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION <br />The American Heart Association requested permission to collect at <br />intersections during traffic to the Notre Dame -Air Force game on <br />November 23rd. They requested use of the intersections which were <br />used in September. Mr. Barcome noted that some of the intersections <br />approved at that time were not under the jurisdiction of the City. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the <br />use of those intersections approved previously which are within the <br />City Limits of South Bend. Mr. Hazinski is to review the list of <br />intersections and select those to be used. <br />REQUEST FOR OPEN AIR STAND APPROVED <br />Louis Papatheodore submitted an application for an Open Air Stand <br />License at 4001 W. Sample Street to be used for the sale of ovenware <br />on October 23, 24 and 25. Attached to the application was the <br />written permission of the owner of the property. Upon motion made, <br />seconded and carried, the Board approved the application, subject <br />to purchase of the necessary open air stand license from the City <br />Controller at the rate of $3.00 per day. <br />PAYMENT REQUEST NO. 35 APPROVED -WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT ADDITIONS <br />The Board received Payment Request No. 35 from the Sollitt Construction <br />Company for $31,672.37. Mr. Farrand explained that this payment was <br />for construction of the scum burner building. Upon motion made, <br />seconded and carried, the Board approved the payment request. <br />
