REGULAR MEETING JUNE 24, 1974 0 W COMPLAINT - SIDEWALKS AND CURB'S ROSEHILL CEMETERY The Board received a letter from Julius Simon, President of the Rosehill Cemetery Association, calling attention to the condition of the curbs and sidewalks in front of Rosehill Cemetery on Miami Street. The letter indicated that damage to the curb was caused by Street Department snow plows. The condition of the sidewalk is a safety hazard. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board referred the complaint to Donald Decker with the request that he investigate the situatinon and give the Board a report as to how damage to the curb occurred and any recommendations. CONTRACTS - ENGINEERING SERVICES FOR INTERSECTION WORK Contracts for engineering services for intersection work at Williams Street and Wayne, Western and Monroe and for the intersections of Portage at Woodlawn, Hamilton and Wilbur were submitted to the Board. Upon the recommendation of.Mr. Farrand, the contracts were tabled for further review by his Office. STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORT The Street Light Outage Report for the period of June 17 through June 21 was received. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the report was ordered filed. REQUEST TO HOLD PRESS CONFERENCE IN FRONT OF COUNTY -CITY BUILDING APPROVED The Board received a request from Steve Parker to hold a Press Conference on the sidewalk in front of the County -City Building on Wednesday afternoon. The Press Conference is in connection with a National Democratic Telethon and a live donkey will be brought in a trailer. Mr. Roemer advised the Board that he could see no reason why approval could not be given. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the request. RECOMMENDATION ON STREET CLOSINGS - RIVER BEND PLAZA OPENING The Board received the following recommendation from Ralph Wadzinski, Bureau of Traffic and Lighting for street closings on June 30: 1. The closing of Washington Street at the Plaza from 12 Noon to 6 P.M. - approval recommended. The closing of Wayne Street at the Plaza from 12 Noon to 6 P.M. - not recommended! Wayne Street is a major arterial. 2. The closing of Jefferson, 100 E and 100 W from 12 Noon to 2:30 p.m. and the closing of Jefferson at the Plaza from 12 Noon to 6:00 p.m. - Approval recommended. 3. The closing of St. Joseph and Jefferson for 10 minutes for the cannon firing - this is a police function. Since Jefferson is already closed, all ceremonies and audiences should be confined within Jefferson. 4. The closing of St. Joseph Street for the fireworks display which was set up to originate from the west side of St. Joseph Street to fire to the east over the major thoroughfare, U S 31, will necessitate two major detours. Due to the anticipated crowd, it would be necessary to reroute U S 31 north traffic at Wayne to Lafayette to Marion, and back to U S 31 North.
