REGULAR MEETING <br />APPROVAL OF REQUEST FROM FORREST WEST TO ATTEND MEETING <br />APRIL 8, 1974 <br />The Board received a request from Forrest West, Building Commissioner, to <br />attend a National Research Board Meeting in Kansas City, Missouri on April <br />10, 1974. The trip will not be at City expense. Upon motion made, seconded <br />and carried, the Board approved the request. <br />REQUEST FOR SAVE A HEART TAG WEEK APPROVED <br />The Board received a request from the Daughters of Penelope to hold a "Save a <br />Heart Tag Week" April 20 through April 27, 1974 to raise money to send surgeons <br />to Greece to perform heart surgery. The goal of the fund drive is $325 so a <br />permit from the Charitable Solicitations Commission is not required. Upon motion <br />made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the campaign. <br />RECOMMENDATION AND PROPOSED RESOLUTION AND ORDINANCE - SOUTH SHORE TRACKS <br />The Board received a recommendation from Robert M. Parker, Deputy City Attorney, <br />that a resolution be passed permitting new track construction across Sheridan <br />Avenue, Iowa Street and Kentucky Street, by the Chicago, South Shore and South <br />Bend Railroad. The resolution and a proposed ordinance would then be submitted <br />to the Common Council. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board referred <br />the matter to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting for a recommendation. <br />PROJECT COMPLETION AFFIDAVIT MAINTENANCE BOND AND DEED OF DEDICATION APPROVED <br />FOR CRESTWOOD GARDENS <br />The Board received a Project Completion Affidavit and Maintenance Bond for the <br />Crestwood Gardens Development. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the <br />completion affidavit and maintenance bond were approved. <br />The Deed of Dedication for the Development was submitted to the Board and, <br />upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Dedication was approved. <br />LETTER TO GRAND TRUNK WESTERN RAILROAD RE: TRAIN WHISTLES <br />The Board received a copy of a letter sent by Robert M. Parker, Assistant City <br />Attorney, to the Grand Trunk Railroad informing them that engineers should not <br />sound their whistles at the intersections of the GTWRR and Greenlawn, Ironwood, <br />26th Street, 30th Street, 35th Street and Logan Street. The letter indicated <br />that warning signs have been installed on each side of the crossings. A copy <br />of the Ordinance enacted by the City of South Bend and the City of Mishawaka <br />and a copy of the Order of the Public Service Commission was enclosed. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the letter was ordered filed. <br />FIRE STATIONS AS VOTING PLACES IN PRIMARY ELECTION APPROVED <br />The Board received a request from W. Joseph Doran, St. Joseph County Democratic <br />Central Committee Chairman, that Fire Stations be used as voting places on Primary <br />Election Day, May 7, 1974. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board <br />approved the request and directed that Chief Jack R. Bland be notified of the <br />approval. <br />FILING OF ASSESSMENT ROLL, VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 33.96, 1974 <br />Rollin E. Farrand, City Engineer, files an Assessment Roll showing the <br />award of damages and assessment of benefits in Vacation Resolution No. 3396, <br />1974 for the vacation of the north -south alley along the Penn Central Railroad <br />north from the northwest corner of Lot 35 to the northwest corner of Lot 34 <br />as well as the vacation of the first east -west alley south of Calvert Street <br />between the Penn Central Railroad and Main Street, City of South Bend. <br />The following property may be injuriously or beneficially affected by such <br />vacation: Lots 18, 19, 20, 21 and 22 of Stover and Witmer's Addition and Lots <br />34 and 35 of Bowman's Addition to the City of South Bend. <br />
