REGULAR MEETING OCTOBER 11, 1976
seconded the motion and it carried. Mr—Farrand said those property
owners who indicated their vote today are not required to be present
next Monday when the Board will consider this.matter again.
PUBLIC HEAPING ON.ASSESSMENT ROLL, VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 3430
This being the date set, hearing was held on the Assessment Roll
for Vacation Resolution No. 3430 for the vacation of the 18' east -
west alley between Kenmore St, and,Falcon St., north of Washington
Street, being the center 18' of the former Colfax Avenue, which was
vacated under Resolution No. 2610, excepting the alley intersection,
The Clerk tendered proofs of publication of notice in the South
Bend Tribune and the Tri-County News which were found to be
sufficient. No remonstrators appeared and no written remonstrances
were filed. Upon motion made by Mr. Farrand, seconded by Mr.
Brunner and carried, the Assessment Roll, showing $0.00 net damages
and $0.00 net benefits was approved and said resolution is in all
things ratified and confirmed and said proceedings closed.
APPROVAL FOR INSTALLATION OF TOILET FACILITIES AT ALARM STATION
Chief Oscar Van Wiele was present and advised the Board that he
would like to proceed with installation.of toilet facilities at
the Alarm Station as soon as possible. Proposed changes in the alarm
system are being considered and he would like to have this installa-
tion completed first. Estimates have been received on the work and
they vary from $4500 to $4900. Since the estimates are below
$5,000 and do not require competitive bidding, the Board advised
Chief Van Wiele to proceed with this work immediately accepting
the contractor who can make the necessary installation at the lowest
and best price for the City of South Bend.
CHANGE ORDERS IN FIRE DEPARTMENT PUMPERS APPROVED
Chief Van Wiele submitted to the Board a recommendation for change
orders in the four Fire Department pumpers purchased.
Changes requested in the pumper purchased September 13, 1976 are
as follows:
Seven 2z" Trilock Nozzle Holders @ $21.00 each $147.00
One 10.00 x 20, 14 ply tire 164.00
Ziebart Rustproofing, complete 250.00
Cast Aluminum Dedication Plaque 70.00
For the three pumpers purchased in March, 1976, changes proposed
per truck were as follows:
One 10.00 x 20, 14 ply tire 164.00
Ziebart Rustproofing, complete 250.00
Cast Aluminum Dedication Plaque 70.00
Two hundred feet of three inch bilateral
hose with 2z inch lightweight couplings
at $4.98 per foot 996.00
There was a discussion regarding the dedication plaques, Mr. Farrand
said the plaques have been traditionally put on fire apparatus in
the past. Mr. Brunner said it was his feeling that economy rather
than tradition ought to be considered. He said perhaps the Board
ought to establish a new tradition in favor of economy. Mr. Farrand
said it has been customary to put such a plaque on fire equipment
and asked Chief Van Wiele for his comments, Chief Van Wiele said
it should be whatever the Board decided. Upon motion made by Mr.
Mullen, seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, the Board approved the
change orders, deleting the items for cast aluminum dedication plaques.
Total amount of the change order for the truck purchased September 13
is $561.00. Total amount of the change order for the three pumpers
purchased in March is $1,410.00 per truck, or $4,230.00.
1
