REGULAR MEETING <br />AUGUST 23, 1976 <br />To provide quick turnover of parking spaces in a manner similar <br />to a twelve -minute meter: <br />1. Removal of meters 1, 7 and 9, 900 block S. Michigan St., <br />and installation of fifteen -minute parking limit, 6 a.m. to <br />6 p.m.. <br />2. Removal of meters 11, 12 and 13, 1000 block S. Michigan St. <br />and installation of fifteen -minute parking limit, 6 a.m, to <br />6 p.m. <br />To provide controlled, yet free parking for public use at a <br />utility company: <br />1. Removal of meters 1, 3 and 5, west side of 300 North Michigan <br />and installation of ten minute green curb area. <br />2. Removal of meters 18, 20, 22 and 24, east side of 200 N. Main <br />Street and installation of ten minute green curb area. <br />3. Removal of meters 14, 16 and 18, south side of 200 West Colfax <br />and installation often minute green curb area. <br />4. Removal of meter l on west side of 300 S. Main Street and <br />installation of ten minute green curb area. <br />To provide controlled, yet free parking for public use of the <br />State Employment Office: <br />1. Removal of meter 1, west side of 200 S. William and Meter 8 <br />south side of 500 W. Jefferson and installation of ten minute <br />green curb area. <br />Installation of a thirty -minute parking zone, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. <br />on the south side of South Street, east of Eddy for turnover of <br />parking for a professional office. <br />Installation of a No Parking Zone on the south side of Marshall from <br />Tuxedo to Varsity to relieve congestion and provide two lanes.of <br />traffic. Marshall will be used as the emergency entrance during the <br />construction of the Osteopathic Hospital addition. <br />Mr. Farrand made a motion that the above recommendationsbe approved, <br />seconded by Mr. Mullen. Gene Evans of the Civic Planning Association, <br />asked the dollar impact of, this meter removal. Mr..Mullen displayed <br />a map of the areas involved and said the removal of the twelve - <br />minute meters at the utility companies amounts to a revenue loss of <br />$3.33 per month, per meter. He noted that senior citizens, who come <br />down to pay their utility bills, will benefit by the removal of the <br />meters and the controlled parking. He noted that the removal of <br />the meters and conversion to green curb areas on Michigan Street, <br />from Garst through Tutt, amounts to $213 per month. He also pointed <br />out that manpower needs in the Parking Meter Department will be <br />reduced by the removal of these meters at a savings of the salary of <br />one man or $7500. The question was called and the motion carried. <br />BID ADVERTISING APPROVED - FIRE DEPARTMENT COATS AND TROUSERS <br />The Board had received a request from Chief Robert L. Snider to <br />advertise for bids for rubber turnout coats and bunker trousers <br />for firefighters. Mr. Farrand noted that the Board has been <br />advised by the Legal Department that these items should be bid. <br />Upon motion made by Mr. Farrand, seconded by Mr. Brunner -and carried, <br />the Board authorized the advertising for bids for the rubber goods <br />with sealed bids to be received on September 13, 1976. <br />1 <br />
