REGULAR MEETING
REPORT - TREE REMOVAL AT 3310 VEP.MONT PLACE
JUNE 21, 1976
Mr. Farrand reported to the Board that an investigation was made
of the complaint of Councilman Kopczynski that a dangerous tree
should be removed from the property at 3310 Vermont Place. Mr. Farrand
said a house was demolished at this site and a tree was left on
the lot. The tree was dead and Mr. Farrand directed the Park Depart-
ment to remove the tree. Upon motion made by Mr. Farrand,
seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, the report was ordered filed
and the information will be transmitted to Councilman Kopczynski.
REQUEST FOR TRAFFIC SIGNAL- BROADMOOR SHOPPING CENTER AREA
The Board received a request from Mrs. Mary Samuels asking that
consideration be given to putting an automatic traffic signal
between the Scottsdale Mall and the Broadmoor Shopping Center. Mr.
Farrand said it should be noted that the signal in that area was
installed at the request and at the expense of Scottsdale Mall.
At the time of the installation, it is understood that Scottsdale
Mall discussed the signal with representatives from Broadmoor'
Shopping Center but they did not want to participate. Therefore,
Scottsdale Mall located the signal where it would be most conven-
ient to them. Mr. Farrand said the matter could be reviewed and
he made a motion that the request be referred to the Bureau of
Traffic and Lighting for review and recommendation. Mr. Brunner
seconded the motion and it carried.`
REQUEST FOR TRAFFIC SIGNAL - MANCHESTER AND MC KINLEY
The Board received a request from Sandra and Michael Pilat, 533
Chamberlin Drive, for a -traffic light at McKinley and Manchester,
indicating that a large number of people, particularly children,
cross at that intersection, the high rate of speed used by,
motorists and the fact that there is a Little League Park in the
area. Mr. Farrand said this particular request for a signal comes
to the Board about once a year. He said this is a State Highway
and field investigations conducted in*the past have indicated
that the necessary warrants do not exist for installation of a
signal. He said it is doubtful if the warrants exist now and said
he did not know if the State would approve the installation when
there are other intersections on State highways where the warrants
do exist and there are no signals. Upon motion made by Mr.
Farrand, seconded by Mr. Mullen and carried, the Board referred the
request to the Bureau of'Traffic and Lighting for a field check
and report.
OPEN AIR STAND APPROVED - 1110 E. IRELAND ROAD
An application to operate an open air stand at 1110 E. Ireland
Road for the sale of legal fireworks from June 30 to July 4 was
submitted by Greg Gaul. The location is commercially zoned and
Mr. Gaul attached the written permission of the property owner to
operate the stand. Upon motion made by Mr. Farrand, seconded by
Mr. Brunner and carried, the application was approved.
REQUEST FOR BLOCK PARTY ON SUNNYMEDE RECEIVED
The Board received a request from Mrs. Anthony Molnar to close
the 1300 and 1400 blocks of Sunnymede Avenue on Friday, July 9
for an annual block party. The closing is requested from Sunnyside
to Twyckenham and from 5:00 p.m. to 12:00 p.m. Upon motion made
by Mr. Farrand, seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, the request
was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting for review and
recommendation.
1
