e)�)�. <br />06 a <br />REGULAR MEETING JUNE 21, 1976 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at <br />9:30 a.m, on Monday, June 21, 1976 by President Rollin Farrand <br />with Mr. Farrand, Mr. Brunner and Mr. Mullen present. Deputy <br />City Attorney Georgia Luks was also present. <br />MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING AND REGULAR MEETING APPROVED <br />Mr. Farrand noted that a special meeting was held on June 9.to_approve <br />a purchase agreement -for the sale of a city -owned lot at 1224 W. <br />Washington. He made a motion that the minutes of the special meeting <br />be approved as submitted. Mr. Brunner seconded the motion and it <br />carried. Mr. Brunner made a motion that the minutes of the regular <br />meeting of June 14 be approved as submitted and reviewed. The <br />motion was seconded by Mr. Farrand and.carried. <br />TAXI LICENSE APPROVED - REBECCA BALANTINE <br />The Board received a recommendation from City Controller Peter H. <br />Mullen that the taxi license application of Rebecca Balantine be <br />approved. Mr. Farrand made a motion that, on the recommendation of <br />the City Controller, the Board approve the taxi license application. <br />Mr. Brunner seconded the motion and it carried. <br />FILING OF PETITION REGARDING TRAFFIC PROBLEMS AT TARKINGTON PARK <br />a Paul M. Borowski, 3217 Cabot Drive, submitted to the Board a petition <br />signed by 198 residents of the Tarkington Park area expressing <br />concern for the safety of children playing in Tarkington Park because <br />of a lack of regard for safety measures by cyclists and motorists <br />who are operating their vehicles on the sidewalks in the park. <br />Mr. Borowski said problems occur from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the <br />conclusion of the Little League games. He said the Police Department <br />and Park Department have been contacted on numerous occasions about <br />the .problem. The Park Department has advised them that they have <br />only two park policemen and enforcement is difficult. Mr. Borowski <br />said he has come to the Board of Public Works to ask that traffic <br />regulations be strictly enforced. Mr. Farrand noted that there are <br />problems involved in this situation which affect not only the Board <br />of Public Works, but also the Board of Safety, the Park Board and the <br />Community School Corporation. He said the Bureau of Traffic and <br />Lighting could make an immediate review of the situation and make <br />recommendations for corrective measures. Mr. Brunner suggested that <br />the Police Department be directed to -dispatch cars to the area for <br />the next week to observe the situation and Mr. Farrand said the Bureau <br />of Traffic and Lighting could also make a field investigation of the <br />area. Captain Kolber of the Police Department was present and was <br />asked by the Board to discuss the matter with Chief Foy and to get <br />cars into the area during the time the violations seem to be occurring, <br />from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Mr. Farrand moved that the petition <br />be filed and referred to the Police Department, the Bureau of Traffic <br />and Lighting, the Board of Public Safety and the Community School <br />Corporation for review and recommendation, with a report of the <br />Police Department and Bureau of Traffic and Lighting investigation to <br />be sent to the Board. Mr. Brunner seconded the motion and it carried. <br />RECO14MENDATION ON PETITION TO VACATE ALLEY NORTH OF MARION STREET <br />VALUE HOUSE <br />The Board received a report from the Area Plan Commission that a <br />public hearing was held on the petition of Value House to vacate the <br />north -south alley running north from Marion Street to the intersection <br />of said alley with the east -west alley running west from St. Joseph <br />Street. The Area Plan Commission recommended the petition favorably <br />to the Board of Public Works. Upon motion made by Mr. Farrand, <br />seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, the report was ordered filed and <br />the petition was referred to the Division of Engineering for preparation <br />of the Vacation Resolution. <br />
