239
REGULAR MEETING MARCH 22, 1976
TRANSFER OF"CUSHMAN MOTOR SCOOTER FROM BUREAU OF POLICE TO
MUNICIPAL SERVICES GARAGE
The Board received a letter from Chief Borkowski asking that
a Cushman Motor Scooter be removed from the Bureau of Police
vehicle inventory and transferred to the Municipal Services
Garage. Captain Sikorski was present and advised the Board
that this unit had been used.in the past for football traffic
control but repairs have been too expensive for the Department
to keep the unit. Mr. Farrand noted that the Bureau of Vehicle
Maintenance would use the vehicle to send a mechanic out to
locations where there is a problem with a City vehicle.. Upon
motion made by Mr. Farrand, seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried,
the vehicle was transferred from the Bureau of Police inventory
to the Municipal Services Garage.
REVISED LEASE WITH STATE OF INDIANA FOR OLD FIRE STATION EIGHT APPROVED
Deputy City Attorney William Stanley advised the Board that a lease
agreement with the Department of Corrections, State of Indiana, for
the use of old Fire Station No. 8, 134 N. Olive Street, had been
approved by the Board and submitted to the State for approval in
February. The Legal Department has now been advised that the State
would like paragraph 10 which refers to liability insurance to be
deleted from the agreement. A revised agreement deleting paragraph
10 has been prepared and Mr. Stanley recommended that the Board
approve the revised lease agreement. Upon motion made by Mr. Farrand,
seconded by Mr.Brunner and carried, the -Board approved the lease
agreement and it will be transmitted to the State of Indiana for
execution by state officials.
REQUEST TO SELL POPPIES APPROVED CONDITIONALLY
The Board received a request from Post No. 1167, Veterans of Foreigh
Wars, to hold their annual Poppy Sale on May 14 and 15, 1976.
They have applied to the Charitable Solicitations Commission for
approval of the solicitation drive. Upon motion made by Mr. Farrand,
seconded by Mr. Mullen and carried, the request was approved, subject
to favorable action by the Charitable Solicitations Commission.
RESPONSE RE: PENN CENTRAL CROSSING MALFUNCTIONS
Senator Birch Bayh transmitted to
from the Penn Central Railroad in
crossing gate arms on Penn Central
"The Honorable.Birch Bayh
United States Senate
Washington, D. C. 20510
Dear Senator Bayh:
the Board the following communication
regard to the malfunction of
crossings in South Bend:
March 5, 1976
Please refer to your letter of February 20, 1976 attaching
copies of letters.from Patricia DeClercq and Judith M.
Keltner, expressing their.concern about the operation of
the crossing gates between Miami and Ironwood Streets in
South Bend, Indiana.
An inspection of these particular gates did not reveal
any malfunction and they are operating as designed.
These gates operate through an electrical circuit and
become activated when our switch trains are performing
work in the vicinity of the old South Bend passenger
station.
To correct this condition, overlay timed -out circuits
must be added to the present installation. The design
and cost estimates will be progressed and upon completion
of this preliminary work, appropriate action will be taken.
Sincerely
s/ Jervis Langdon, Jr.
President
Penn Central Transportation Company "
