Mr. Seitz noted that the <br />Board had an obligation to the citizens,of South Bend who use taxicab <br />service when they reviewanapplication that has been denied. It <br />was also noted that Mr. Riley's record includes some convictions in <br />1974. Mr. Farrand said the Board reviews each case separately and <br />four of the last applicants reviewed by the Board had their licenses <br />approved. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board denied <br />the application of Donald Riley for a taxi license. <br />REQUEST FOR INTERSECTION STUDIES <br />The Board received requests from Councilman Roger Parent for traffic <br />control studies -of the intersection of Hass Drive and Rose and also <br />the intersection of Crestwood, Rockne and Hickory at Edison. Mr. <br />Parent noted that both intersections involve safety hazards and he <br />requested that a study be made, with consideration to be given to <br />installation of a four-way stop sign at Hass Drive and Rose Street. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board referred the <br />requests to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting for review and <br />recommendation. <br />APPROVAL OF AMENDMENTS TO TEAMSTER'S CONTRACTS <br />Amendments to the Memorandum of Understanding between the Teamsters <br />Union and the Bureau of Wastewater, Bureau of Sanitation, Bureau of <br />Solid Waste and Bureau of Water -Construction and Maintenance were <br />transmitted to the Board by City Attorney James Roemer, with the <br />notation that they had been reviewed by the City Attorney, the Depart- <br />ment of Public Works and the City Controller and were now ready for <br />approval. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved <br />the amendments. <br />BID AWARDED - POLICE DEPARTMENT PORATABLE TRANSCEIVERS <br />The Board received a recommendation from Police Chief John H. Walsh <br />that the low bid of the Meade Electric Company of $10,200 for 10 <br />portable transceivers be accepted. Upon motion made, seconded and <br />carried, the Board approved the recommendation and accepted the low <br />bid of Meade Electric Company. <br />BID ADVERTISING APPROVED - THREE FIRE DEPARTMENT PUMPERS <br />The Board received a request from Chief Jack R. Bland that the City <br />advertise for bids for three pumpers for the Fire Department. Detailed <br />specifications were attached. Upon motion made,.seconded and carried, <br />the Board approved the request and directed the Clerk to advertise <br />for bids, with sealed bids to be received on November 10. <br />BID AWARDED - CREST MANOR SANITARY SEWERS <br />The Board received a request from the Bureau of Design and Adminis <br />tration that the bids for the Crest Manor Sanitary Sewers, Section <br />1 and 2 had been reviewed and that the low bid of Woodruff and Sons <br />could be approved. Upon motion made,seconded and carried, the Board <br />approved the recommendation and awarded the low bid of $29,982.80 <br />for the construction of the Crest Manor Sanitary Sewers to Woodruff <br />and Sons, Inc. <br />TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES APPROVED <br />The Board received the following recommendations for approval of <br />traffic control devices: <br />Installation of a yield sign on Harrow at Garwayr Upon motion <br />made, seconded and carried, the installation was approved. <br />Removal of two hour parking restriction across from 2025 S. Main <br />Street. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the removal was <br />approved. <br />1 <br />
