M REGULAR MEETING AUGUST 25, 1975 APPROVAL OF TAXI LICENSE FOR ROBERT ALLEN The Board had continued the matter of the denial of a taxi cab license for Robert Allen while the Legal Department researched the matter. The following recommendation was received: "To: Board of Public Works Pursuant to your request, I have reviewed Mr. Allen's file and application for a taxicab license. In light of all the facts, I recommend approval of said application. Background. Mr. Allen appeared at the July 14th meeting of the Board and requested a review of the denial of his application. Said denial was based primarily on Chief Walsh's recommendation based on Robert Allen's past criminal history. Mr. Allen's last criminal entry was 6-18-69 for violation of parole. Since that time, he obtained a taxicab license and worked successfully at this job for a two-year period, ending 6-7-73 The letter of August 4, 1975, from Mr. Roy Sharpe, Manager of the South Bend Cab Company, is attached along with the legal opinion of June 121 1975, regaj+ding case authority in the area. But for the fact that Mr. Allen did not renew his application at the proper time, he is before us today. C_') I have requested Mr. Allen to be present, to answer any questions which the Board may have. s/ Kathleen Cekanski Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the recommendation and granted the'taxi license. The Deputy City Controller's Office will be notified of the approval. CENTURY CENTER FOUNDATION WORK BID AWARDED The Board received a recommendation from Patrick McMahon, Manager of the Bureau of Public Construction, that review of the Century Center Foudation bids had been completed and the low bid of the H. G. Christman Construction Company could be accepted. It was noted that the Economic Development Authority concurred in this recommendation. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the recommendation and awarded the bid for the Century Center Foundation Work to the H. G. Christman Construction Company, Inc. on their low bid of $244,755.00. The Construction Contract was, upon motion made, seconded and carried, signed by the Board and the Performance Bond, Labor and Materials Payment Bond and Certificate of Insurance were filed. ELWOOD AVENUE SIDEWALK BID AWARDED The Bureau of Design and Administration recommended to the Board that the low bid of the Batteast Construction Company for the Barrett Law Construction of sidewalks on Elwood Avenue be accepted. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the recommendation and accepted the low bid of the Batteast Construction Company of $13,674.25 for the construction of the Elwood Avenue sidewalks. BENDIX-ARDMORE-LINCOLNWAY WEST INTERSECTION NOW UNDER CITY MAINTENANCE The Board received official notification from the Indiana State . Highway Commission that they have accepted the construction, under Topics Project TM6000 (8) for the Bendix, Ardmore, Lincolnway West intersection improvements and the improvements now revert to the City of South Bend for proper maintenance. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the report was ordered filed.
