REGULAR MEETING JUNE 30, 1975 <br />RE UEST FOR RELEASE OF LEASE WITH ACTION FOR FIRE STATION EIGHT <br />A written request was received from A.C.T.I.O N., Inc. for the <br />release of their lease with the City of.South Bend for.the use <br />of old Fire Station No. Eight, 135 North Olive Street. Deputy City <br />Attorney Kathleen Cekanski advised the Board that the Work Release <br />Program being conducted at the station is now being taken over <br />by the State of Indiana Department of Corrections and a lease agreement <br />with the state has been prepared. She recommended that the Board <br />approve the request. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the <br />lease with A.C.T.I.O.N., Inc, for Old Fire Station Eight was released <br />effectiveJuly1, 1975. <br />TEASE AGREEMENT - STATE OF INDIANA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS <br />A Lease Agreement between the City of South. Bend and the State of <br />Indiana Department of Corrections for the use of.Old Fire Station <br />Number Eight was submitted to the Board. The lease is for a period <br />of one year, from July 1, 1975 through June 30, 1976, with a monthly <br />rental of $280.00. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the lease <br />agreement was approved by the Board and will be submitted to the State <br />of Indiana for approval. <br />STATEMENT OF UNDERSTANDING APPROVED - STATION EIGHT LEASE <br />A Statement of Understanding between the Board of Public Works for <br />the City of South Bend and William P. Howard and Vernon Laue for the <br />State of Indiana Department of Corrections was submitted to the Board. <br />Deputy City Attorney Kathleen Cekanski advised the Board that since <br />there will be a six -week interval between the signing of the lease <br />agreement by the Board and signature by the Governor, an agreement <br />should be executed which sets forth the fact.that the City of South <br />Bend has accepted the release of the lease with A.C.T.I.O.N., Inc. <br />and has signed a lease with the State of Indiana for the use of Old <br />Fire Station Number Eight, 135 North Olive Street and are waiting <br />for the execution of the lease by the State of Indiana. This statement <br />of understanding binds the parties to the conditions of the lease. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the <br />Statement of Understanding. <br />CORRECTIVE EASEMENT APPROVED - O'BRIEN CORPORATION <br />Robert M. Parker, Chief Deputy City Attorney,.transmitted to the Board <br />a Corrective Easement to one dated February 24, 1975 to the O'Brien <br />Corporation. This Easement is in connection with the Orange -Colfax <br />connector right-of-way and extends the original easement by two and a <br />hlaf feet. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the corrective <br />easement was approved. <br />REQUEST FOR ON -STREET PARKING FOR POTPOURRI ART FAIR APPROVED <br />The Board received a request from Mrs. Marie Leddy to allow on - <br />street parking on both sides of Lincolnway East, from Miami to <br />Ironwood, in connection with the 8th Annual Art Fair to be conducted <br />by the Potpourri. Mrs. Leddy has received permission from Walter Chapin, <br />Assistant Chief of Traffic for the Indiana State Highway Department. <br />for this parking. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board <br />approved the request and the Police Department Traffic Detail and <br />AM the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting are to be advised of Board approval. <br />USE OF HOT AIR BALLOON APPROVED <br />The Board received a request from Steven H. Smith and Partners, on <br />behalf of Marvin Boor, owner of Honda of Michiana. They are asking <br />permission to launch a hot air balloon at Honda of Michiana, 4035 <br />S. Michigan Street on July 4 and 5 or July 18 and 19, from the parking <br />lot. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the <br />request subject to verification -of liability insurance coverage and <br />notification of exact date selected. <br />
