REGULAR MEETING MARCH 7, 1977
<br />BID ADVERTISING APPROVED - TWO FLUSHERS FOR BUREAU OF STREETS.
<br />The Board received a request from the Bureau of Streets to
<br />advertise for bids for two flushers for the Bureau. Detailed
<br />specifications were attached. Also attached was a memorandum
<br />from James Meehan, Manager of the Bureau of Vehicle Maintenance,
<br />advising that he had reviewed the specifications and they meet
<br />or exceed requirements Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon,
<br />seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, the Board approved the request ,
<br />and sealed bids will be received on March 21, 1977.
<br />PETITION FILED FOR VACATION OF EAST -[WEST ALLEY BETWEEN MICHIGAN
<br />AND ST. JOSEPH STREETS.
<br />Ben Feferman Motor Sales Corporation, by its attorneys Thornburg,
<br />McGill, Deahl, Harman, Carey and Murray, files a petition to
<br />vacate the east -west alley between Michigan Street and St. Joseph
<br />Street, from South Street to Bronson Street. The petitioners
<br />own the property on both sides of the alley and seek to fence it
<br />in for security purposes if the vacation is granted. Upon motion
<br />made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Brunner and.carried, the Board
<br />filed the petition and referred it to the Bureau of Engineering
<br />for preliminary review and recommendation.
<br />SALE OF ABANDONED VEHICLES APPROVED
<br />Peter 11. Mullen, City Controller, advised the Board that there
<br />are forty-four cars which have been towed to the City lot and held
<br />the required length of time and which can now be sold. He
<br />recommended that the Board approve bid advertising for the sale
<br />of the vehicles in compliance with the Abandoned Vehicle Act.
<br />Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried,
<br />the recommendation was approved and sealed bids for the -;sale of
<br />the vehicles will.be received on March 21,_1977.
<br />TAM LICENSE DENIED - PATRICII GOODLING
<br />The Board received a recommendation from Peter Ii. Mullen, City
<br />Controller, that in concurrence with the South Bend Police Department,
<br />the taxi license application of Patrick. Goodling should be denied.
<br />Upon motion made by Mr..McMahon, seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried,
<br />Mr. Mullen's recommendation was approved and the taxi license
<br />application of Patrick Goodling was denied.
<br />CONTRACT APPROVED - CRESTWOOD A14D EDI SON SIGITALIZATION
<br />The contract with Morse Electric Company for the Crestwood -
<br />Edison signalization, Project R & S 90, was submitted to the Board
<br />for approval. Bids were accepted on February 14, 1977 and the
<br />project cost is $20,311.60. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon,
<br />seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, the contract was approved.
<br />POPPY SALE FOR VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS APPROVED
<br />The Board received a request from the Veterans of Foreign Wars,
<br />Post 1167 to hold their annual Poppy Day Sale on the streets
<br />on Friday and Saturday, May 20 and 21, 1977. Upon motion made by
<br />Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, the request
<br />was approved subject to the issuance of a permit from the
<br />Charitable Solicitations Commission.
<br />REQUEST TO PURCHASE CITY -OWNED LOTS FILED
<br />The Board received an inquiry from James R. Rice, 1002 Dover Drive
<br />regarding the possible purchase of the following city-of",med lots:
<br />606 S. Carroll, 614 S. Columbia, 517 S. Rush, 614 S. Rush, 618
<br />S. Rush, 621 S. Rush, 622 S. Rush, 722 S. Push, 114 W. South,
<br />316 E. South, 424 E. South and 508 E. South. Upon riotion made by
<br />Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, the request
<br />was filed and referred to the Department of Engineering, Parks,
<br />Redevelopment and to Dr. George Wing for review and recor:mendation.
