REGULAR MEETING MARCH 7 1977 <br />A regular neeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at <br />9:30 a.n. on Monday, Ilarch 7, 1977 by President Patrick <br />McMahon, with Mr. f'IcIlahon and Mr. Brunner present. <br />MINUTES OF PREVIOUS.I'IEETING APPROVED <br />Mr. Brunner reported that he had reviewed the ninutes of the <br />February 28 neeting of the Board and he rude a notion that the <br />minutesbeapproved as.submitted. Mr. McMahon seconded the <br />notion and it carried. <br />AUCTION OF BICYCLES AND UNCLAIMED PROPERTY APPROVED <br />Chief Michael Borkowski submitted a request to the Board to hold <br />an auction of bic-NTcles and other unclaimed property held more than <br />six months by they Police Department. The bicycle auction would <br />begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 16 and the unclaimed property <br />auction would be held immediately following the bicycle auction. <br />Chief Borkowski noted that, as provided by State Statute, the <br />proceeds from the bicycle auction will go to the Police Pension <br />Fund and the proceeds from the unclaimed property sale will go into <br />the City General Fund. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded <br />by Mr. Brunner and carried,the requests were approved. <br />BID ADVERTISING APPROVED - POLICE DEPARTMENT VEHICLES <br />The Board received a request from Chief Michael Borkowski to <br />advertise for bids for unit prices for police vehicles, with a <br />maxinun of twenty-eight and a mininum of twenty vehicles to be <br />purchased. The.Department also requested that unit trade-in <br />values be submitted for forty vehicles which can be seen at <br />the Police Station on March 22. Detailed specifications were <br />attached. Janes Meehan, Bureau of Vehicle Maintenance, advised <br />the Board that he would review the specifications and r_iake his <br />written report to the Board. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, <br />seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, the Board authorized the <br />advertising for bids `hen a written recormendation has been received <br />from Mr. Meehan. <br />IIICIIIAI4A WA LERSHED CANOE RACE APPROVED - MAY 14 <br />The Board received a request from Bruce Carter, on behalf of IZichiana <br />Watershed, Inc., to hold their 7th Annual Canoe Run on Saturday, <br />May 14. The letter_ indicated that the organization has contacted <br />the Board of Park. Commissioners requesting their approval and that a <br />waiver of liability will be provided to the City Attorney's Office. <br />Don Sporleder was present and advised the Board that Bill Elias <br />was handling safety for the event and has already been in contact <br />with the Police Department and the Civil Defense Department. Mr. <br />McMahon made a notion that the Canoe Run be approved, subject to <br />the f_iling,of a Certificate of Insurance, a -hold harmless agreement <br />indemnifying the City of South Bend and waivers of liability being <br />filed by participants. Mr. Brunner seconded the notion and it carried. <br />BID ADVEP.TISIITG APPROVED - STREET MATERIALS FOR 1977 <br />The Board received a request from John Baumgartner, Assistant Street <br />Conmissioner., that bids be advertised for street materials for <br />1977. Detailed specifications were attached. Upon motion made by <br />Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, the Board approved <br />the request and bids will be advertised, with sealed bids to be <br />received on March 21, 1977. <br />
