REGULAR <br />MEETING <br />AUGUST 2, <br />1982 <br />REOUEST <br />FOR TRAFFIC CONTROL - <br />INTERSECTION OF S. MEADE AND <br />HURON <br />A request for the installation of a four-way stop at the inter- <br />section of South Meade and Huron Streets was received from <br />Jerrilyn Plonski, 502 S. Meade Street. Upon a motion made by <br />Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the request <br />was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and the <br />Police Traffic Division for review and recommendation. <br />REQUEST FOR TEMPORARY ON -STREET PARKING ON BENDIX DRIVE <br />A request was received from Michael J. Tezich, Sales Manager <br />for Simon Brothers, Inc., 1901 Bendix Drive, for permission to <br />allow on -street parking on Bendix Drive for the upcoming Simon <br />Brothers Food Show to be held on Saturday and Sunday, October <br />2 and 3, 1982. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded <br />by Mr. Hill and carried, the request was referred to the'Bureau <br />of Traffic and Lighting and the Police Traffic Division for <br />review and recommendation. <br />REQUEST TO USE PUBLIC SIDEWALK (SOUTH BEND SHRINE CLUB) <br />The South Bend Shrine Club requested permission to use the public <br />sidewalk bordering its property on Marion Street for its annual <br />Corn and Sausage Roast on Saturday, August 14, 1982, from 4:00 p.m. <br />to 7:30 p.m. 11r. Leszczynski noted that the club was requesting <br />use of the sidewalk for the setting up of tables and chairs for <br />the event. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by <br />Mr. Hill and carried, the request was referred to the Bureau <br />of Traffic and Lighting for review and recommendation. <br />APPROVE PLACEMENT OF DUMPSTERO IN TREE LAWN AREA AT <br />MEMORIAL HOSPITAL (SOLLITT CONSTRUCTION) <br />Mr. Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager of the Bureau of Traffic and <br />Lighting, recommended favorable action on the request of <br />Sollitt Construction Company for the placement of two trash <br />dumpsters in the tree lawn area in front of Memorial Hospital <br />along Michigan Street starting on August 9, 1982 and continuing <br />to approximately December 20, 1982, in conjunction with renova- <br />tion work being performed at the facility. In addition, Mr. <br />Wadzinski recommended that vehicle parking along the west <br />curb of Michigan Street be eliminated in the area of the <br />dumpsters. It was noted that a scaffold would be constructed <br />over the sidewalk from the hospital to the dumpster including <br />a totally enclosed wood constructed walkway underneath the <br />scaffold for pedestrian traffic. Upon a motion made by Mr. <br />Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the recommenda- <br />tion and request were approved. <br />APPROVE STREET LIGHTING CHANGES <br />The Bureau of Traffic and Lighting recommended the changing of <br />various incandescent and mercury vapor fixtures in the city to <br />high pressure sodium fixturesin conjunction with the new . <br />lighting tariff with Indiana-& Michigan Electric.Company. <br />The number of lights affected totalled 200 and resulted in a <br />decrease of $1,001.10 per month in the city's costs to I & M <br />for such lighting. <br />Mr. Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager of the Bureau of Traffic and <br />Lighting, also recommended the removal of certain street lights <br />and, with the advent of new ramps, the installation of street <br />lights in conjunction with Phase I of the Olive -Sample .Overpass, <br />at a net estimated monthly increase of $66.20. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and <br />carried, the recommendations were approved. <br />
