364 <br />REGULAR MEETING AUGUST 2, 1982 <br />APPROVE EXTENSION TO CONTRACT - COLE ASSOCIATES <br />(ISLAND PARK WALL INVESTIGATION) <br />Mr. Leszczynski noted that, following a review of the damaged <br />Island Park Wall, Cole Associates had. determined that considerable <br />undermining of the east portion of the wall below river level had <br />occurred, something which had not been anticipated when the initial <br />work was stated in. April of 1981. Mr. Leszczynski advised that <br />because of this new development, a re-evaluation of the problem <br />was recommended and certain work elements would be performed by <br />Cole Associates at an increase in the original contract amount <br />of a figure not to exceed $2,000.00. Upon a motion made by Mr. <br />Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the above contract <br />was approved. <br />FILING OF BARRETT LAW REQUEST FOR CONSTRUCTION OF <br />SANITARY SEWERS AT 18455 STATE ROAD 23 <br />A request for hook-up to the city's sewage system for property <br />located at 18455 State Road 23 owned by Cosimo Bumbaca and Roberto <br />Parisi was submitted by James R. Kuehl, attorney representing the <br />petitioners. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by <br />Mr. Hill and carried, the request was referred to the Bureau of <br />Administration and Design for preparation of preliminary documents. <br />REQUEST TO CLOSE STREETS TO TRAFFIC IN PARK AVENUE NEIGHBORHOOD <br />A request was submitted by Victor Morrison -Vega, Co -Chairman of <br />the 1982 Tour of Historic Homes in the Park Avenue neighborhood, <br />for the temporary closing of the following streets on Sunday, <br />September 12, 1982, between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m <br />Park Avenue and Forest Avenue be closed to vehicular <br />traffic between Riverside Drive and Navarre Street. <br />LaMonte Terrace, Manitou Place and Riverside Drive <br />be closed from Forest Avenue to Park Avenue. <br />In addition to the above street closures, the use of Manitou <br />Place was requested for the setting up of refreshment stands, <br />chairs and tables. It was noted that requests would be made <br />to businesses in the vicinity of neighborhood for use of private <br />parking lots to accommodate area residents and tour visitors. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and <br />carried, the above request was referred to the Bureau of Traffic <br />and Lighting and the Police Traffic Division for review and <br />recommendation. <br />REQUEST TO PLANT TREES IN PUBLIC SIDEWALK (MIAMI STREET <br />BUSINESSMEN'S ASSOCIATION) <br />The Miami Street Merchants submitted a request to the Board for <br />approval of the installation of sixty trees along Miami Street <br />in the public right-of-way between Lincolnway and Altgeld Street. <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that he had had discussions with the <br />merchants concerning their request, the funding for which would <br />be coating from Community Development through the Tree Planting <br />Program approved by the Board on May 10, 1982. Mrs. Val Betty, <br />representing the Miami Street Merchants, advised that in <br />accordance with recommendations made by Mr. Leszczynski, a <br />bonded contractor would cut the necessa y holes in the sidewalk <br />for installation of the trees and a nur ery would be hired to <br />maintain the trees in a healthy condition . Upon a motion made <br />by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill'and carried, the request <br />was referred to the Park Department and the Engineering Department <br />for review and recommendation. <br />I <br />
