330 <br />REGULAR MEETING JUNE 21, 1982 <br />Old Michigan, 100 block south from Washington to <br />Jefferson (All day July l through July 5), subject <br />to maintaining 12-foot emergency clearance lane. <br />Closure of Colfax Parking Garage (Jefferson Street <br />Garage to be open free to public). <br />Ms. Dobski advised the Board that the above closures and traffic <br />control areas were being recommended as a result of a meeting <br />held with the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and the Police <br />Traffic Division. <br />APPROVE RECOMMENDATION TO DENY TAXI DRIVER'S LICENSE <br />Mr. Kernan submitted his recommendation for denial of the taxi <br />driver's license application of Vernon C. Johnson, 1215 Goodland <br />Avenue, based on an investigation by the Police Department <br />verifying that Mr. Goodland falsified his application concerning <br />misdemeanor arrests and suspension of his driver's license. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Hill, seconded by Mr. Leszczynski <br />and carried, Mr. Kernan's recommendation to deny the license <br />was approved based on the Police Department's findings. Mr. <br />Kernan abstained from voting. <br />REQUEST TO CONDUCT STREET SERVICES REFERRED <br />A request from Dora Lottie, 2024 Pershing Street, for permission <br />to conduct street services on the corner of Washington and <br />Walnut the first week in July from noon to 3:00 p.m. was <br />received. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by <br />Mr. Hill and carried, the request was referred to the Bureau <br />of Traffic and Lighting and the Police Traffic Division for <br />review and recommendation. <br />APPROVE TENT SALE ESLINGER FURNITURE AND APPLIANCE <br />A request was received from Eslinger and Appliance for permission <br />to conduct its annual Tent Sale on its parking lot at 2701 South <br />Michigan Street, July 6, 1982, through August 9, 1982. A site <br />plan showing the location of the tent was enclosed. It was <br />noted.that a certification from City Awning of South Bend confirm- <br />ing the fire retardancy of the tent wa.s submitted. Upon a motion <br />made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr.. Hill and carried, the <br />request was approved, subject to the recommendations of the <br />Fire Department concerning the location of the tent and overhead <br />wires and other fire prevention measures; the Bureau of Traffic <br />and Lighting concerning off-street parking and traffic flow; <br />and the Building Department for approval of site plan and <br />issuance of necessary permit. <br />INTERSECTION FLTND SOLICITATION APPROVED (MUSCULAR <br />DYSTROPHY AND LETTER CARRIERS ASSOCIATION) <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that the Muscular Dystrophy Association <br />of Northern Indiana and the National Association of Letter <br />Carriers in South Bend were requesting permission from the <br />Board to conduct a fund solicitation at the following inter- <br />sections on Sunday, July 11, 1982, from noon to 4:00 p.m.: <br />Lincolnway East at Miami <br />Eddy at Jefferson <br />Ironwood at Edison <br />Northside Boulevard at Sample <br />Mr. Hill noted that approval of the fund solicitation would be <br />based upon compliance with the Board's policy dealing with.such <br />activities, which included use of the sidewalk areas and the <br />filing of a Hold Harmless Agreement to indemnify the City of <br />
