•M0 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />MAY 10, 1982 <br />Contract with Department of Public Works for street <br />improvements on 120 blocks of residential <br />streets within neighborhood strategy areas; <br />Budget: $200,000.00 <br />Contract with Park Department for tree planting program <br />consisting of the planting of 100 trees <br />in parks and selected residential areas. <br />Budget: $10,000.00 <br />Contract with Park Department for the resurfacing of the <br />Studebaker Park Tennis Courts.` <br />Budget: $25,000.00 <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Kernan and <br />carried, the above contracts were approved. <br />APPROVE ACTIVITIES ON RIVER BEND PLAZA <br />City Events Coordinator Mikki Dobski requested the Board's per- <br />mission to schedule the following activities on River Bend Plaza: <br />(2 1. River Bend Plaza Arts and Crafts Show - sponsored by <br />�[ Promotion Management Associates, to be held on <br />July 15 and 16, 1982. <br />2. South Bend Public Library Read -A -Rama - sponsored <br />by the Department of Public Instruction, to be <br />held on July 14, 1982. <br />3. Special Program on mushrooms in conjunction with <br />Annual Mushroom Week Festival in Michigan (Chamber <br />of Commerce), held on May 6, 1982. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and <br />carried, the above activities were approved, subject to the <br />filing of the appropriate insurance. The special program on <br />mushrooms, held on May 6, 1982, was approved retroactive to <br />that date. <br />APPROVE EXTENSION FOR TEMPORARY OFFICE - GURLEY-LEEP BUICK <br />Mr. Leszczynski submitted a letter from Mr. Alan Mann, Controller <br />for Gurley-Leep Buick, requesting a six-month extension on their <br />permit for a temporary office building at the premises at the <br />northwest corner of Lafayette and Wayne Streets. It was noted <br />that the Board had approved the temporary mobile office building <br />from approximately September 1, 1981, to March 31, 1982; however; <br />the sales office trailer had never been used. Mr. Leszczynski <br />stated that the Building Department and the Bureau of Traffic <br />and Lighting had no objection to the extension for a six-month <br />period. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. <br />Kernan and carried, the request was approved and the matter <br />referred to the Building Department for issuance of the necessary <br />permit. <br />APPROVE TENT SALE- LEVY'S LA-Z-BOY, 301 NORTH MAIN <br />A request was received from Mr. Dick Copeland, Levy's La-Z-Boy <br />Showcase located at 301 North Main Street for permission to erect <br />a tent to be used for a chair sale which started on May 7th and <br />would continue through May 24th. It was noted that the tent <br />had already been erected; however, the company had been erroneously <br />informed that no permit or approvals were needed, and, upon <br />learning Board approval was necessary, was now requesting <br />permission for the tent sale. Mr. Leszczynski advised that, <br />prior to this Board meeting, the Building Department and Bureau <br />of Traffic and Lighting had inspected the tent and surrounding <br />area. and found no objection. It was noted that the Fire <br />Inspection Bureau had also inspected the tent and found it to <br />
