•M0 REGULAR MEETING MAY 10, 1982 Contract with Department of Public Works for street improvements on 120 blocks of residential streets within neighborhood strategy areas; Budget: $200,000.00 Contract with Park Department for tree planting program consisting of the planting of 100 trees in parks and selected residential areas. Budget: $10,000.00 Contract with Park Department for the resurfacing of the Studebaker Park Tennis Courts.` Budget: $25,000.00 Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Kernan and carried, the above contracts were approved. APPROVE ACTIVITIES ON RIVER BEND PLAZA City Events Coordinator Mikki Dobski requested the Board's per- mission to schedule the following activities on River Bend Plaza: (2 1. River Bend Plaza Arts and Crafts Show - sponsored by �[ Promotion Management Associates, to be held on July 15 and 16, 1982. 2. South Bend Public Library Read -A -Rama - sponsored by the Department of Public Instruction, to be held on July 14, 1982. 3. Special Program on mushrooms in conjunction with Annual Mushroom Week Festival in Michigan (Chamber of Commerce), held on May 6, 1982. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the above activities were approved, subject to the filing of the appropriate insurance. The special program on mushrooms, held on May 6, 1982, was approved retroactive to that date. APPROVE EXTENSION FOR TEMPORARY OFFICE - GURLEY-LEEP BUICK Mr. Leszczynski submitted a letter from Mr. Alan Mann, Controller for Gurley-Leep Buick, requesting a six-month extension on their permit for a temporary office building at the premises at the northwest corner of Lafayette and Wayne Streets. It was noted that the Board had approved the temporary mobile office building from approximately September 1, 1981, to March 31, 1982; however; the sales office trailer had never been used. Mr. Leszczynski stated that the Building Department and the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting had no objection to the extension for a six-month period. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Kernan and carried, the request was approved and the matter referred to the Building Department for issuance of the necessary permit. APPROVE TENT SALE- LEVY'S LA-Z-BOY, 301 NORTH MAIN A request was received from Mr. Dick Copeland, Levy's La-Z-Boy Showcase located at 301 North Main Street for permission to erect a tent to be used for a chair sale which started on May 7th and would continue through May 24th. It was noted that the tent had already been erected; however, the company had been erroneously informed that no permit or approvals were needed, and, upon learning Board approval was necessary, was now requesting permission for the tent sale. Mr. Leszczynski advised that, prior to this Board meeting, the Building Department and Bureau of Traffic and Lighting had inspected the tent and surrounding area. and found no objection.
