WOW <br />rfMD' <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />MAX 10, 1982 <br />TAXICAB INSPECTION STANDARDS <br />CLEANLINESS: The interior of the taxicab must be free <br />of debris and loose dirt. The upholstery must be intact <br />and free of grease, food, ashes and similar substances. <br />EXHAUST SYSTEM: Each taxicab shall be.equipped with <br />a muffler in good working condition which will. maintain <br />noise levels as required by the vehicular noise ordinance. <br />The engine and power mechanism of every motor vehicle shall <br />be so equipped and adjusted as to prevent the escape of. <br />excessive fumes or smoke. <br />BRAKES: All taxicabs shall be equipped with service <br />brakes upon all wheels. The brakes must be adequate to <br />control the movement of and to stop and hold such vehicle, <br />including two separate means of applying the brakes. Each <br />cab must.be able to decelerate and stop within the time <br />specified by I.C. 9-8-6-33, a copy of which is attached. <br />All brakes shall be maintained in good working order and <br />shall be so adjusted as to operate as practicable as <br />Ur with respect to the wheels on the opposite sides of the <br />vehicle. <br />°Q BUMPERS: Every taxicab shall be equipped with bumpers. <br />EMBLEM: Each taxicab shall bear on the outside of each <br />front or rear door in painted letters 5 inches high, the <br />name of the holder of the Certificate of Public Convenience <br />and Necessity. The number of the license shall be painted <br />in numbers 5 inches high on the rear of the taxi. <br />HORNS: Each taxicab shall be equipped with a horn in <br />good working order and capable of emitting sound audible <br />under normal conditions from a distance of not less than <br />200 feet, but no horn shall emit an unreasonably loud or <br />harsh sound or whistle <br />HEADLIGHTS: Each taxicab shall be equipped with at <br />least two headlamps with at least one on each side of the <br />front of the motor vehicle. The lamps must be in good <br />working order and capable of emitting both a high and <br />low beam. <br />TAILLIGHTS: Each taxicab must be equipped with at <br />least two tail lamps mounted on the rear which when <br />lighted shall emit a red light plainly from a distance <br />of 500 feet to the rear. The lamps must be located at <br />a height of not more than 72 or less than 20 inches. In <br />addition, either a tail lamp or a separate lamp must be <br />placed so as to illuminate with a white light the rear <br />registration plate of the vehicle. <br />REFLECTORS: Each taxicab must have on the rear <br />either as a part of the taillights or separately, two <br />red reflectors which must be mounted at a height of not <br />less than 20 inches or.more than 60 inches from level <br />ground. <br />STOP LAMPS: Each taxicab must be equipped with a <br />stop lamp or lamps on the rear of the vehicle which <br />shall display a red or amber light and which shall be <br />activated upon application of the foot brake. Such <br />lamps shall be in operable condition. <br />TURN SIGNALS: Each taxicab shall be equipped with <br />lamps or mechanical signal devices showing to the front <br />and rear for the purpose of indicating an intention to. <br />turn either to the right or the left. Such lamps shall <br />indicate the intended direction of turning by flashing <br />the lights showing to the front and to the rear. Such <br />lights shall be in good working condition. <br />
