WOW rfMD' REGULAR MEETING MAX 10, 1982 TAXICAB INSPECTION STANDARDS CLEANLINESS: The interior of the taxicab must be free of debris and loose dirt. The upholstery must be intact and free of grease, food, ashes and similar substances. EXHAUST SYSTEM: Each taxicab shall be.equipped with a muffler in good working condition which will. maintain noise levels as required by the vehicular noise ordinance. The engine and power mechanism of every motor vehicle shall be so equipped and adjusted as to prevent the escape of. excessive fumes or smoke. BRAKES: All taxicabs shall be equipped with service brakes upon all wheels. The brakes must be adequate to control the movement of and to stop and hold such vehicle, including two separate means of applying the brakes. Each cab must.be able to decelerate and stop within the time specified by I.C. 9-8-6-33, a copy of which is attached. All brakes shall be maintained in good working order and shall be so adjusted as to operate as practicable as Ur with respect to the wheels on the opposite sides of the vehicle. °Q BUMPERS: Every taxicab shall be equipped with bumpers. EMBLEM: Each taxicab shall bear on the outside of each front or rear door in painted letters 5 inches high, the name of the holder of the Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity. The number of the license shall be painted in numbers 5 inches high on the rear of the taxi. HORNS: Each taxicab shall be equipped with a horn in good working order and capable of emitting sound audible under normal conditions from a distance of not less than 200 feet, but no horn shall emit an unreasonably loud or harsh sound or whistle HEADLIGHTS: Each taxicab shall be equipped with at least two headlamps with at least one on each side of the front of the motor vehicle. The lamps must be in good working order and capable of emitting both a high and low beam. TAILLIGHTS: Each taxicab must be equipped with at least two tail lamps mounted on the rear which when lighted shall emit a red light plainly from a distance of 500 feet to the rear. The lamps must be located at a height of not more than 72 or less than 20 inches. In addition, either a tail lamp or a separate lamp must be placed so as to illuminate with a white light the rear registration plate of the vehicle. REFLECTORS: Each taxicab must have on the rear either as a part of the taillights or separately, two red reflectors which must be mounted at a height of not less than 20 inches or.more than 60 inches from level ground. STOP LAMPS: Each taxicab must be equipped with a stop lamp or lamps on the rear of the vehicle which shall display a red or amber light and which shall be activated upon application of the foot brake. Such lamps shall be in operable condition. TURN SIGNALS: Each taxicab shall be equipped with lamps or mechanical signal devices showing to the front and rear for the purpose of indicating an intention to. turn either to the right or the left. Such lamps shall indicate the intended direction of turning by flashing the lights showing to the front and to the rear. Such lights shall be in good working condition.
