282 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />MAY 10, 1982 <br />approximately three blocks; and north on Clinton approximately one- <br />half block. It was noted that the Building Department and the <br />Bureau of Traffic and Lighting had ,no objections to.the proposed <br />house move. During the privilege of the floor portion of the <br />meeting, a resident expressed her pleasure in having the house <br />moved to its new location. No one was present to speak against <br />the house move, and it was noted that all adjacent property owners <br />had been notifed of the move. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, <br />seconded by Mr. Kernan and carried, the house move was approved. <br />ACCEPT DONATION OF 1980 DODGE VAN -,FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />PUBLIC EDUCATION DIVISION <br />Fire Chief Timothy J. Brassell advised the Board that, through <br />numerous contributions made to the Fire Department in the <br />approximate amount of $5,200.00, the Public Education Division <br />of the department had been able to purchase a 1980 Dodge van for <br />its use in promoting fire safety and prevention. He submitted <br />a list containing the names of over 75 local contributors who <br />had made the vehicle purchase possible. Upon a motion made by <br />Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the van was <br />accepted and the contributors thanked on behalf of the City of <br />South Bend. <br />AWARD BID - FIRE PUMPING APPARATUS <br />Following a review of the bids opened by the Board on April 26, 1982, <br />Fire Chief Timothy J. Brassell recommended the Board award the low <br />bid of Fessco Fire and Safety Equipment, Inc. of Niles, Michigan <br />in the amount of $264,416.00 for two pumping apparatus manufactured <br />by 3-D Fire Apparatus Company, Bonduel, Wisconsin. Upon a motion <br />made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the <br />recommendation was approved and the bid awarded. Chief Brassell <br />indicated that delivery of the fire apparatus would take approx- <br />imately 14 months, or July, 1982. <br />AWARD BID - STREET DEPARTMENT EQUIPMENT <br />In a memo to the Board, Division of Transportation Director Sean <br />Watt recommended the Board award the low bid of Deeds Equipment <br />in the amount of $39,730.79, for dump bodies, central hydraulic <br />systems, hitches and underbody mountings, said bids being received <br />on April 19, 1982. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded <br />by Mr. Kernan and carried, the recommendation was approved and the <br />bid awarded. <br />APPROVE PURCHASE AGREEMENT - SALE OF CITY -OWNED <br />PROPERTY (125 E. DAYTON) <br />Mr. Leszczynski explained that, in accordance with the bid accepted <br />by the Board on April 26, 1982, in the.amount of $250.00 from <br />Alfred Bolden, Sr., 129 East Dayton Street, an adjacent property <br />owner, a Purchase Agreement which was now being submitted to the <br />Board for approval. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded <br />by Mr. Hill and carried, the Purchase Agreement was approved and <br />the matter referred to the Legal Department.for drafting of the <br />appropriate deed of conveyance. <br />APPROVE STANDARDS FOR TAXICAB INSPECTIONS <br />Mrs. Pfotenhauer explained that the Board of Public Works is <br />required, under the new licensing ordinance regulating taxicabs, <br />to establish a procedure for inspection of all taxicabs licensed <br />to operate within the city. She submitted a proposed policy <br />setting forth certain standards regarding the safety and operation <br />of the cabs which were developed pursuant to state motor vehicle. <br />requirements. She advised that the Police Department would conduct <br />the annual inspection of all licensed taxicabs and the inspection <br />of any vehicle prior to its use on the city streets. Upon a motion <br />made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the <br />following standards were approved: <br />
