REGULAR MEETING
MARCH 8, 1982
WHEREAS, the Indiana State Board of Accounts has instructed
the City to write off all uncollectible accounts after every
attempt to collect them has been made; and
WHEREAS, the City of South Bend by and through its Board
of Public Works desires to write off the accounts listed on
the attached documents; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Public
Works of the City of South Bend that the accounts listed on
the attached documents totaling $42,008.18 be written off
the accounts receivable of the City of South Bend as
uncollectible.
Dated this 8th day of March, 1982.
Attest:
s/ Barbara J. Byers, Clerk
CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA
BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS
s/ Richard L. Hill
s/ Joseph E. Kernan
s/ John Leszczynski
Assistant Fire Chief Richard Switalski advised that the amount of
$42,008.18 appeared to be considerable for write-off as uncollectible;
however, he stated that the amount covered the period of November,
1978, through December of 1980. He hoped that the amount of write-
off for 1981 would be considerably less because of the newly
established procedure and the services provided by the collection
agency. Upon a motion made by Mr. Kernan, seconded by Mr. Hill
and carried, the above Resolution No. 7, 1982, was adopted.
REQUEST TO PURCHASE CITY -OWNED PROPERTY - FIRE STATION
AT WALNUT AND THOMA.S STREET
A request was received from S. Lawrence Webb, Executive Director
of the Concerned -Affected -Interested Citizens of South Bend,
inquiring into the possibility of purchasing the city -owned fire
station located at the corner of Walnut and Thomas Streets. Upon
a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried
the request was referred to the various city agencies for a
determination as to whether or not the property need be retained
for any reason.
APPROVE PARADE REQUEST - JUSTICE AND PEACE CENTER (MARCH 25, 1982)
A request was received from Sister Susan Kintzele, Director of the
Justice and Peace Center, for permission to conduct a parade
utilizing the city sidewalks on Thursday, March 25, 1982, in
memory of the second anniversary of the assasination of Archbishop
Romero of El Salvador. The proposed route utilized Michigan Street
to Main, to Washington and then to Chapin and on to Thomas Street
where the parade would end at St. Stephen's Church. It was noted
the march would begin at 5:00 p.m. from St. Joseph's High School
at Angela and Michigan Street. The Board expressed concern for
the safety of the participants, especially along Michigan Street
where the sidewalks were narrow and were still snow covered and
slippery. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by
Mr. Kernan and carried, the request was approved and the matter
referred to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting to coordinate the
activity. Mr. Leszczynski asked Sister Kintzele to coordinate
final details with the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and -.the
Police Traffic Division with the safety of the participants in
mind and perhaps utilizing another route if the Michigan Street
route was determined too dangerous.
1
