Jerry Wroblewski„ 906 N. Adams <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO CONDUCT STREET SERVICES <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised'that Mr. Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager, <br />Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, has reviewed the request of <br />Ms. Dora Lottie, 2024 Pershing Street, South Bend, Indiana, <br />presented to the Board on August 15, 1983, and recommends <br />approval based on the sidewalk not being totally blocked. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill <br />and carried, the above request was approved. <br />APPROVE FEES FOR STORAGE AND TOWING OF ABANDONED VEHICLES <br />Ms. Katherine Barnard, Director, Department of Code Enforcement, <br />advised the Board that it has been two years since the fees <br />charged for the storage and towing of abandoned vehicles have <br />been reviewed. She is therefore recommending the following <br />increase in fees for the storage and towing of abandoned vehicles: <br />NEW.PROPOSED FEES: <br />$2/day/vehicle for storage <br />$55/vehicle for regular towing <br />$60/vehicle for rollover towing <br />She stated that pursuant to Municipal Code, Chapter 20, Article <br />3, Section 20-29-g, the Board of Public Works has the authority <br />to review fees and establish fees which.are reasonably necessary <br />for towing and storing abandoned vehicles. She stated that the <br />owner of the abandoned vehicle will then be charged the fee for <br />the towing and storage of the vehicle. For the Board's informa- <br />tion, she provided the current fees which are being charged and <br />which were established in October of 1981. They are as follows: <br />FEES ESTABLISHED IN 1981: <br />$2/day/vehicle for storage <br />$25/vehicle for towing a vehicle <br />$30/vehicle for piggybacking a vehicle <br />She additionally stated that the cost of towing and storing <br />the vehicles has increased during the last two (2) years and <br />the Junk Vehicle Fund is running in a deficit. Currently the. <br />Department of Code Enforcement has a contract with Hurwich Iron <br />Company for the storage and towing of abandoned vehicles. The <br />cost of the storage is $440.00 for 1983 and $25.00 per vehicle <br />for the regular towing of a vehicle and $30.00 per vehicle for <br />rollover towing. In addition, the inspector's time, office <br />staff time and supplies which totals approximately $30/vehicle <br />needs to be included in the cost of towing abandoned vehicles. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill <br />and carried, the recommendation of Ms. Barnard to increase <br />fees for storage and towing of abandoned vehicles as listed <br />above was approved. <br />
