272 <br />REGULAR MEETING JUNE 20, 1983 <br />APPROVE REQUEST OF ESLINGER FURNITURE AND <br />APPLIANCES TO ERECT TENT <br />Mr. Kernan advised the Board that Mr. Ralph J. Wadzinski, <br />Manager, Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, has reviewed the <br />request of Mr. J. Douglas Kile, Vice President, Eslinger <br />Furniture and Appliances, Inc., 2701 South Michigan Street <br />to conduct their annual tent sale and recommends approval. <br />Eslinger's will be advised that a Certificate -of Flame <br />Retardancy and a permit from the Building Department must <br />be secured in order to erect a tent or canopy. Additionally, <br />Eslinger's will be requested to file with the Board a Certificate <br />of Insurance in the amount of $1,.000,000.00 naming the City <br />of South Bend as an additional insured for the duration of the <br />tent sale. Upon a motion made by Mr. Kernan,,seconded by Mr. <br />Hill and carried, the above request was approved. <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO CONDUCT.INTERSECTION FUND SOLICITATION - <br />NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF LETTER CARRIERS BRANCH 330 <br />Mr. Kernan advised the Board that Mr. Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager, <br />Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, has reviewed the request of the <br />National Association of Letter Carriers presented to the Board <br />on May 16, 1983 and recommends approval subject to all solicita- <br />tions being made from the sidewalk/curb area and not in the <br />street and that the intersection of Miami/Ireland not be used. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Kernan, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, <br />the above request was approved subject to the conditions outlined <br />by Mr. Wadzinski being complied. <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO HAVE STREET CLOSED - CAMPEAU STREET <br />FROM EDDY TO FRANCIS (JUNE 26, 1983) <br />Mr. Kernan advised that Mr. Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager, Bureau <br />of Traffic and Lighting, has reviewed the request of Mr. <br />Arvester Fleming, Sr., on behalf of the First A.M.E. Zion <br />Church, presented to the Board on June 6, 1983 and recommends <br />approval subject to the maintenance of a ten (10) foot clear <br />and unobstructed lane for emergency purposes. The petitioner <br />is responsible for the closing and opening of the street with <br />barricades to be provided by the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Kernan, seconded by Mr. Hill and <br />carried, the above request was approved. <br />APPROVE EVENTS TO BE CONDUCTED ON RIVER BEND PLAZA <br />DURING THE MONTH OF JULY <br />Mr. Kernan advised that Mr. Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager, Bureau <br />of Traffic and Lighting, has reviewed the request to conduct <br />various events on River Bend Plaza during the month of July <br />presented to the Board on May 23., 1983, by Ms. Mikki.Dobski, <br />City Events Coordinator, and recommends approval of the following: <br />JULY 3 Century Ride in conjunction with the Ethnic <br />Festival. A 10K, 50K and 100K bicycle ride. <br />The route originates in the festival area and <br />continues out to the north and west sectors <br />of the county. <br />JULY 6 Library Read -A -Rama travelling exhibit to be <br />located at the NE corner of Jefferson Boulevard <br />and old Michigan Street in front of the Hallmark Store. <br />JULY 14 AAU Torch Relay Run. The route utilzied by the <br />National Sports Festival Torch Run last year will <br />be used with the exception that the runners will <br />end at the Plaza stage instead of the steps of <br />the Marriott Hotel. Additionally, a small ceremony <br />will take place on the stage. The entire event <br />will happen over the noon hour.
