272 REGULAR MEETING JUNE 20, 1983 APPROVE REQUEST OF ESLINGER FURNITURE AND APPLIANCES TO ERECT TENT Mr. Kernan advised the Board that Mr. Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager, Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, has reviewed the request of Mr. J. Douglas Kile, Vice President, Eslinger Furniture and Appliances, Inc., 2701 South Michigan Street to conduct their annual tent sale and recommends approval. Eslinger's will be advised that a Certificate -of Flame Retardancy and a permit from the Building Department must be secured in order to erect a tent or canopy. Additionally, Eslinger's will be requested to file with the Board a Certificate of Insurance in the amount of $1,.000,000.00 naming the City of South Bend as an additional insured for the duration of the tent sale. Upon a motion made by Mr. Kernan,,seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the above request was approved. APPROVE REQUEST TO CONDUCT.INTERSECTION FUND SOLICITATION - NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF LETTER CARRIERS BRANCH 330 Mr. Kernan advised the Board that Mr. Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager, Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, has reviewed the request of the National Association of Letter Carriers presented to the Board on May 16, 1983 and recommends approval subject to all solicita- tions being made from the sidewalk/curb area and not in the street and that the intersection of Miami/Ireland not be used. Upon a motion made by Mr. Kernan, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the above request was approved subject to the conditions outlined by Mr. Wadzinski being complied. APPROVE REQUEST TO HAVE STREET CLOSED - CAMPEAU STREET FROM EDDY TO FRANCIS (JUNE 26, 1983) Mr. Kernan advised that Mr. Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager, Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, has reviewed the request of Mr. Arvester Fleming, Sr., on behalf of the First A.M.E. Zion Church, presented to the Board on June 6, 1983 and recommends approval subject to the maintenance of a ten (10) foot clear and unobstructed lane for emergency purposes. The petitioner is responsible for the closing and opening of the street with barricades to be provided by the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting. Upon a motion made by Mr. Kernan, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the above request was approved. APPROVE EVENTS TO BE CONDUCTED ON RIVER BEND PLAZA DURING THE MONTH OF JULY Mr. Kernan advised that Mr. Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager, Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, has reviewed the request to conduct various events on River Bend Plaza during the month of July presented to the Board on May 23., 1983, by Ms. Mikki.Dobski, City Events Coordinator, and recommends approval of the following: JULY 3 Century Ride in conjunction with the Ethnic Festival. A 10K, 50K and 100K bicycle ride. The route originates in the festival area and continues out to the north and west sectors of the county. JULY 6 Library Read -A -Rama travelling exhibit to be located at the NE corner of Jefferson Boulevard and old Michigan Street in front of the Hallmark Store. JULY 14 AAU Torch Relay Run. The route utilzied by the National Sports Festival Torch Run last year will be used with the exception that the runners will end at the Plaza stage instead of the steps of the Marriott Hotel. Additionally, a small ceremony will take place on the stage. The entire event will happen over the noon hour. Mr. Wadzinski recommends that the event be handled by a police escort. 1 1
