REGULAR MEETING JUNE 6, 1983 <br />Bend Tribune and the Tri-County News which were found to be <br />sufficient. In accordance with guidelines adopted for such <br />use of Revenue Sharing Funds, information about this public <br />hearing was forwarded to the following senior citizen groups <br />with the request that the notice be posted Foster Grand- <br />parents, Hansel Neighborhood Center, REAL Services, Retired <br />Senior Volunteer Program, Senior Citizens Group of LaSalle <br />Park, Harvest House Centers and Howard Park Senior Citizens' <br />Center. <br />It was noted that a Volunteer Program is to be initiated in <br />conjunction with the Junior League of South Bend, Inc. The <br />Junior League will be providing $3`,000.00 to ,the program,for <br />1983 and the City is proposing to match that amount plus an <br />additional amount of approximately $2,000.00 for incidental <br />expenses. The Volunteer Coordinator to be hired will handle <br />recruitment of volunteers and the placement of those volunteers <br />in the various.City departments. <br />Ms. Candy Schoonover, Project Director for RSVP, a program <br />funded by ACTION but sponsored by Real Services, addressed <br />the Board and stated that she was not opposed to the funding <br />of this new program but was concerned whether the older adults <br />through RSVP would be included in the program and would have <br />representation.on the Task Force to be formed once the program <br />is in operation. <br />Mr. Kernan thanked Ms. Schoonover for her concern and stated <br />that the City has enjoyed a good working relationship with <br />the RSVP Program in the past and that these volunteers would <br />certainly be included in the program, as well as other older <br />adult volunteers. It is anticipated that the RSVP Program <br />will work hand -in -hand with the new Volunteer Progrm and <br />that someone from RSVP would be included on the Task Force. <br />Mr. Kernan additionally expressed hope that other segments <br />of the community also would be involved in the program. <br />Mr. Hill stated that the Real Services program has provided <br />many volunteers in the Police Department as well as the other <br />departments and they have been an asset to the operations of <br />the City. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Kernan <br />and carried, the public hearing on this matter was closed. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Kernan, seconded by Mr. Hill and <br />carried, the Clerk was instructed to forward a favorable <br />recommendation on this appropriation to the Controller's <br />office and the City Clerk's office along with minutes of the <br />public hearing on this matter. <br />OPENING OF CETA AUDIT SERVICES PROPOSALS <br />This was the date set for receiving and opening of sealed <br />proposals for the above referred to services. The Clerk <br />tendered proofs of publication of Notice in the South Bend <br />Tribune and the Tri-County News which were found to be <br />sufficient.
